Kelsey Elliott paces Stingers

The Cortland YMCA Stingers’ Kelsey Elliott set a meet record and was the second-highest scorer in the Girls 15-18 grouping at the 6th annual Winter Whiteout youth swimming meet at RIT this past weekend.
Elliott won the 50 backstroke among Girls 15-18 in a meet-record time of 29.30 seconds. Teammate Jainyn Wood was the third-leading scorer in the same grouping, while Caleb Treadwell was third among Boys 15-18 swimmers.
A total 38 Stinger team members competed and posted 165 personal-best times. Overall, more than 600 swimmers from New York and Pennsylvania were involved in the meet.
“I was a little concerned about how the team would perform in a meet right in the middle of the holiday season, but we swam extremely well,” Stinger coach Noah Beck said. “It was a great way to end 2012 and I see it really kick-starting 2013. In my mind, the most important takeaway from the meet was a compliment paid to the swimmers for their behavior. One of the meet organizers went out of her way to tell me that our swimmers were a very respectful and encouraging group of kids. We are very lucky to have such a stand-up group.”
