Streaking Homer cruises past Rams

The beat goes on for Homer Central girls on the volleyball court.
Two days after being pushed to a five-set victory at Mexico, the Trojans came back home and rolled Monday night to a sweep of visiting Jamesville-DeWitt to run sits winning streak to 29 dating back to last season.
Homer posted scores of 25-20, 25-22, 25-19 to take care of J-D in this OHSL encounter and improve to 11-0 this season, 10-0 in league matches.
The Red Rams drops to an even 5-5 on the season.
Senior setter Taryn Heath led Homer with 15 assists, four aces, three blocks and two digs. Senior middle hitter Katie Sinclair added six kills, four blocks and two aces.
Other highlights came from junior libero Lainee Reed (5 digs), junior right side hitter Logan McEvoy (4 blocks, 2 kills), junior middle hitter Lauren Smith (4 kills), senior outside hitter Jessica Mitchell (2 kills, 2 digs) and freshman setter Emily Cottrell (2 digs).
Jenn Heyward topped the Red Rams with 10 kills, five aces and four blocks.
Sonia Narsipur added 10 assists and two kills and Laura Wildridge provided seven kills, three blocks and two digs.
HOMER JVs fell to 8-3 overall after a tough three-set loss to Jamesville-DeWitt.
The Trojans won the opening set 25-15, but the Red Rams rallied to take the next two sets 25-18 and 25-21.
“Through the first two sets I thought we played very solid,” Homer coach Jeremy Cook said. “We did have a lead in the third set, but were plagued with errors to finish it out. J-D was a tough opponent the first contest. We expected more of the same this time around and that’s what we got. We just needed to receive serve a bit better and we could have changed the outcome of this match.”
Tanya Priadoun led the Trojans with six assists, two aces and one kill.
Baylee Buchanan added seven digs with Mikayla McNeill had having three blocks and two aces.
Homer will return to OHSL action Wednesday, traveling to Chittenango with JV play beginning at 6 p.m.
