Cincy gets back to winning ways

The Cincinnatus Central volleyball team got back on the winning track Monday evening with a 27-25, 25-17, 6-25, 25-23 Central Counties League win over visiting Stockbridge Valley.
First-place host DeRuyter, meanwhile, was a 25-16, 25-18, 25-23 winner over McGraw.
Cincinnatus 3, Stockbridge Valley 1: “It was a good all-around match with more offense and some nice defensive coverage,” said Red Lions coach Macy Cobb, her team now 2-4 in the league and 2-9 overall. “The first set went back-and-forth with both teams settling in and working on offense until finally we finished it at 27. Stockbridge Valley (2-5, 3-7) jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the second game before Mallory Cobb served 13 straight points and we didn’t look back.
“They got revenge in the third set, as Miranda Rowe scored 14 points in a row and we never recovered. They took a 9-1 lead in the fourth set before Johanna Stark notched 10 points in a row to get us back into the set. After that we didn’t lose the lead.”
Hannah Smith had six kills, two aces and a block for Cincy, which was to visit Tully tonight in a non-leaguer before resuming CCL play at Brookfield on Thursday. Kassidy Kievit had four kills, three aces and a block, JaLynne Smith three kills and six digs, Cobb a kill, five aces, seven assists and two digs and Stark two kills and 12 digs.
Kaitlyn VanValkenburg had six kills, four digs and two blocks for Stockbridge Valley.
DeRuyter 3, McGraw 1: Amber Slocum had six kills, four aces and a block as the Rockets improved to 6-1 in league play and 8-3 overall.
Kayla Hampton had three kills, eight aces and seven assists, Sam Moade four kills and three aces Hannah Benjamin three kills, an ace and a block and Weslee Eckler a kill, an ace and 11 assists.
No statistics were reported for McGraw, now 2-4 in the league and 2-7 overall.
DeRuyter hosts Living Word Academy Thursday in a non-league match while McGraw visits Stockbridge Valley the same night.
