Red Raiders roll over Purple Tigers
FULTON — “We took an old-fashioned whipping.”
That was Cortland High wrestling coach Dave Darrow’s succinct summation of his team’s 66-0 OHSL Freedom Division drubbing at the hands of host Fulton, the 14th-ranked Large-School squad in the state, Wednesday night.
“They were up 12-0 before you could blink,” Darrow said, a quick pin and the first of three Purple Tiger forfeits giving the Red Raiders, now 4-0 in the league and 18-3 overall, that advantage. “Then we lost two close ones that we needed to win. We didn’t get the job done as a team; mentally we weren’t ready to do battle there. It should have been closer.
“We won three of the five JV matches, wrestled very well, and then there was a Pee Wee program before the varsity match. We’ll work harder and get ready for next week.”

Cody Hartmann suffered his first loss at 215 pounds and his second in 19 matches this season when he was pinned in 1:08 by the Red Raiders’ D.J. Ingham. Eric Reisweber is now 21-3 on the season after losing a 13-4 major decision to Adam Wallace at 125. Luke Bush was edged 5-4 by Nick Muckey at 160, Garret Morse (now 20-4) lost 2-0 to Mike Conners at 171 and Paul Turco fell to Casey Clark 5-2 at 285 in the closest bouts.
Winning for the Cortland JVs were Jon Cepeda, who pinned Todd Oaks in 1:54 at 189 pounds; Andy Price, a 5-3 winner over Derek Owen in another 189-pound bout and Mark Phelps, who outpointed Brandon Arrigo 11-9 in overtime at 152.
