Crush to open up third campaign on May 31

The Cortland Crush will open its third New York Collegiate Baseball League season on May 31 when it visits the Sherrill Silversmiths in a 5 p.m. start.
The same two teams play the next day at Beaudry Park, the first pitch set for 6 p.m.
The Crush will have a pair of four-game homestands during the 46-game season. The first one begins on June 16 against the Syracuse Junior Chiefs at 6 p.m., while the Rochester Ridgemen visit on June 17, also at 6 p.m. The Hornell Dodgers come to Beaudry Park on June 18 and the Crush entertains the Junior Chiefs return on June 19, both of those games set to start at 3 p.m.
The second four-game homestand starts July 3 with a 3 p.m. game against the Sherrill Silversmiths. After taking July 4 off, the Crush hosts the Junior Chiefs on July 5, the expansion Rome Generals on July 6 and the Syracuse Salt Cats on July 7, all three games starting at 6 p.m.
The NYCBL consists of 10 teams for the 2016 season. The Oneonta Outlaws and Geneva Red Wings moved to the Perfect Game Baseball League, the Geneva Twins suspended operations and the Niagara Power folded following the 2015 campaign. Rome joined the league and will be in the Eastern Division along with the Crush, the Syracuse Salt Cats and Junior Chiefs, and Sherrill. The Western Division will consist of the defending league champion Olean Oilers, Hornell, Rochester, the Genesee Rapids and the Wellsville Nitros.
The Crush will play each of the other teams in the Eastern Division 10 times, five at home and five on the road. They will also play each team in the Western Conference once except for Rochester, returning the Ridgemen’s June 17 visit on July 23 at 7 p.m. in the regular-season finale. In addition to Rochester and Hornell, Wellsville will also visit Cortland, that game slated for June 11 at 3 p.m. The Crush will visit Olean June 25 in a 1 p.m. start and Genesee July 9 at 7 p.m.
The Crush has a pair of regularly-scheduled doubleheaders, June 12 at Rome starting at 5:30 p.m. and at home against Sherrill on July 21 starting at 3 p.m.
