Marathon’s Tim Larkin gains position over Kyle Parker of Dryden in the first period Thursday night enroute to a 13-4 major decision at 138 pounds.

DRYDEN – Dryden High finally got to host its Senior Night for the wrestlers representing the Purple Lions this season.
Marathon provided the limited opposition in this battle between Interscholastic Athletic Conference teams Thursday night as host Dryden came away with the 30-16 triumph. There were just four contested matches as the Olympians rested most of their main wrestlers for the upcoming Section Class D Tournament Saturday at Odessa-Montour Central School.
“Dryden needed a match for senior night and we had some kids that had points to use up from a match that got canceled in January,” Marathon coach Jamie Bush explained. “That’s why we wrestled. Both teams got some good matches.
“I had hoped to get Matt Williams back at 160 pounds tonight, but he is out the remainder of the season due to a nagging injury. Dryden has a lot of seniors, but some were also out due to injuries.
Marathon actually won three of the four contested bouts. Tim Larkin won by major decision at 138. Dillon Hurlbert and Andrew Gillette each won by pinfall at 220 and 285 respectively.
Kurt Parker got the lone on-mat win for Dryden as he posted the pinfall victory at 152 pounds.
The rest of the Purple Lions were came as Jeremy Andrews (145), Tyler Andrews (160), Shawn Collins (170) and Chad Adams (182) received forfeits.
“Andrew Gillette got a big win at 285 that should help his confidence at sectionals,” Bush said. “Tim Larkin wrestled a very smart match from start to finish.
Dillon Hurlbert did what he does best, pin. With the Class D Tournament on Saturday we hope to place all nine entries in the top five and take all nine to the Section 4 Division 2 State Qualifier.”
Class D entries for Marathon include top seeds Lucas Malmberg (36-2) at 106 and Tyler Hall (34-3) and 126. Hurlbert (33-4) is the second seed at 220 while Christian Seyerle (20-7) is the third seed at 285. Other seeded Olympians include Loyd Barker (14-20) seeded fifth at 120, Gillette seeded fifth at 285 and Larkin (18-19) seeded sixth at 145, Andrew Sanford (6-22) seeded seventh at 152 and Liam Chilson (10-12) seeded seventh at 195.
KRAIG PARKER is the lone Dryden wrestler among the top-four seeds for the Section 4, Class B Tournament at Waverly Saturday. Parker is the fourth seed at 285 pounds.
GROTON CENTRAL has two wrestlers among the top four Section 4, Class C Tournament seeds. Levi George is seeded third at 220 pounds while Darren Ostrander is the fourth seed at 120 pounds. The Class C Tournament will be held at Lansing.
