Homer girls are ‘A’ runners-up

SYRACUSE — Three Homer Central girls were crowned champions Wednesday during a very good night at the Section 3 Class A Indoor Track & Field Championships inside Syracuse University’ Manley Field House at Syracuse University.
Bori Tozser, Jekeytha Adkins and Kindrah Kohne each took first-place honors for a young Trojan team that posted an equally impressive second-place effort with 80 points. Jamesville-DeWitt claimed the Class A title with 159 points. The Trojans and New Hartford (67 points) rounded out the top three teams.
Tozser posted a personal best of 3:11.11 in capture the 1,000-meter run and the first Trojan sectional crown. The junior also placed second in the 1,500m run with a stellar 5:00.27 clocking, good enough to advance to the Section 3 State Qualifier.
Kindrah Kohne notched her win in the 600m run. The Trojan junior clocked 1:46.16 to claim a sectional title.
Adkins earned her first sectional title in the 55m hurdles as the freshman edged out her teammate, senior Jacyln Yonta. Adkins was clocked in 9.84 while Yonta tripped the timing light at 9.95. they were the only two runners to break the 10-second mark.
Adkins kept up her outstanding sectional debut by placing second in the long jump with a school record leap of 15-feet-10.25 inches. She also took third place in the triple jump with a hop, skip and jump of 31-3 that broke her own freshman school record in the event.
Kohne ran the opening leg of the Trojans’ 3,200m relay team with Tozser on the anchor leg. Abbey Gray and Suzette Strauf were the second and third legs as the Trojans placed third in the event with a time of 10:31.55.
The Trojan’s 1,600m relay quartet of Victoria Lewis, Gray, Strauf and Kohne combined for a third-place time of 4:26.41. Each member posted a personal best during their leg of the event.
A pair of fourth-place finishes got the rest of Homer’s team points. Gray was fourth in the 3,000m run with a time of 11:55.26 while the 800m relay quartet of Lewis, Yonta, Abbey Phelps and Rayne Perry were fourth-best as ell. They finished with a time of 1:59.31.
The Homer Central boys will compete at the Section 3 Class A Championships Tuesday. The Trojans girls will return to the track February 15 for the Freedom League Championships.
