Homer’s Norris top seed for Class B tourney

Matt Norris will head into Saturday’s Section 3 Class B Wrestling Championships as a marked man.
The Homer Central senior will take his unblemished 34-0 record to action at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill as the No. 1 one seed in his 145-pound weight class. Wrestling in the Class B tournament will begin at 10 a.m.
Norris is the lone favorite among Cortland High and Homer matmen who will be competing in the 11-school field.
CHS senior Mike Southwick is the highest seeded for the Purple Tigers, earning the No. 2 at 160 pounds based on his 34-2 record. The only other Trojan seeded in the top three is senior Eric Petrie, whose 31-5 record earned him the second seed at 152 pounds.
The rest of the seeded Homer wrestlers include sophomore Isaac Cline (15-4) as the fifth-seed at 106 pounds; senior Dakota O’Gorman (15-9) fifth-seed at 170 or sixth-seed at 160; sophomore Dylan Hotchkiss (16-12) fifth-seed at 195 or seventh-seed at 220; junior Collin Baker (18-16) sixth-seed at 126 or seventh-seed at 120; sophomore Mark Currie (14-13) seventh-seed at 182 or ninth-seed at 170; sophomore Cameron Cronk (26-7) ninth-seed at 113; freshman Peter Davis (7-3) 10th-seed at 120 and sophomore Jacob Cline (13-11) 10th-seed at 126.
Other Cortland wrestlers to earn seeds were junior Drew Towers (26-10) as the fifth-seed at 132 pounds; junior Grant Tinker (27-11) fifth-seed at 145; junior Nic Edmond (22-14) fifth-seed at 220; sophomore Mike Bay (29-7) sixth-seed at 99; sophomore Trent Jones (25-10) sixth-seed at 106; sophomore Ian George (17-13) sixth-seed at 120; junior Chace Bentley (19-17) sixth-seed at 170; freshman Dakoatah Miller (17-10) sixth-seed at 182; senior Alec Edwards (18-16) seventh-seed at 138; sophomore Andrew Boyce (4-4) ninth-seed at 126; senior Greg Brown (18-11) 10th-seed at 285; sophomore Jake Smith (13-13) 11th-seed at 120 and freshman Dane George (17-15) 13th-seed at 113.
Trojan freshman Tristin Brown (10-12) at 99 pounds, junior Zach Egan (12-21) at 138, sophomore Jeremiah Bush (9-16) at 220 or 285 and freshman Reno Gaffney (6-15) at 285 will be Saturday morning draws.
Purple Tiger freshman Schuyler Miller (1-6) at 152 pounds and junior Marcus Minnix (6-15) at 285 will be the morning draws.
Cortland has no entry at 195 pounds, while Homer has no entry at 132 pounds.
l Cortland still has one regular season non-league match remaining, Oneida visiting tonight. CHS will honor its seniors and induct 1975 graduate John Kaminski into the school’s Wrestling Hall of Fame.
The match is slated for a 5:30 p.m. start.
