OHSL girls basketball: Trojans snare sectional
spot knocking off Bears

Pulling away in the second half, Homer Central girls got to celebrate qualifying for the Section 3 Class A basketball tournament with a Monday night victory.
The Trojans were 43-28 home court winners over Chittenango to improve to 5-6 in the OHSL Freedom Division and 8-9 overall while putting a happy face on an emotional Senior Night.
Madison Dimorier scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds for the Trojans, who out-scored the Bears 26-15 in the second half to secure the victory and trigger a mid-court celebration that included giving head coach Chris DiFulvio a confetti shower.
Homer visits first place Jamesville-DeWitt this evening to conclude the regular season, with the sectional seeds to be decided on Wednesday.
Lisa Sharpe and Hannah Casey scored eight points apiece for Homer against Chittenango, with Casey also leading the defense with five steals.
“Lisa Sharpe stepped up huge tonight,” noted DiFulvio of his senior forward. “She was 4-for-5 from the field and just on tonight.”
A little hustle was also noted as a key to the Homer victory.
“I think the turning point in the game was when Mary Mercer dove for a loose ball and called timeout,” said Coach DiFulvio. “Mary is just an amazing kid, she got right up and told the other girl ‘good hustle,’”
Sharpe and Kailee Dimorier are the lone seniors for the Trojans, with the elder Dimorier finishing with six points, three rebounds and a blocked shot. “Kailee and Lisa really worked hard this year to help the team make sectionals and I am happy for them,” said DiFulvio.
Megan Pierce was the lone double-figure scorer for Chittenango with 10 points, the Bears within 17-13 at halftime before the Trojans took charge.
HOMER JVs rolled to a 52-21 victory over Chittenango, never in much trouble after securing 26-8 control by halftime.
“We worked through our offense better tonight, and continue looking for our open shots,” said Coach Crissy Colasurdo, as every player contributed points to the victory that improved Homer’s record to 14-3.
Five Trojans shared top scoring honors with eight points apiece — Allie Osterhoudt, Arielle Moheimani, Emily Aloi, Ashley Aloi and Ashley Lee with those matching totals.
Katie Mercer grabbed 13 rebounds and Ashley Aloi 11 as the Trojans controlled the backboards, out-rebounding Chittenango 44-28. Megan Guerrera led the defense with five of Homer’s 23 steals.
Homer teams visit Jamesville-DeWitt this evening, the JVs starting things off at 5:30 p.m.
