Pee Wee goalie in stingy mood

Three players chase after the puck during action in this past weekend’s 11th annual Fire On Ice Mite and Tykes Tournament at the J.M. McDonald Sports Complex. More than 190 players, ages eight and under, participated in the event.

The Cortland Flames Pee Wee Travel youth hockey team got 18 saves from goalie P.J. Shager Saturday in a 7-0 shutout win over host Center State.
Ben Gravel scored twice for the winners, while Jake Prunier had a goal and two assists, Matt Pelowski a goal and an assist and Dylan Cooper, Jayson Wojcinski and Jared Berry one goal each.
MITE B
The Computing Center squad went 1-2-1 and placed third in the 11th annual Fire on Ice Tournament hosted by the Cortland County Youth Hockey Association.
The local squad tied Midstate 5-5 in the first game as Jed Brazo had three goals and an assist, Mitchell Riter a goal and two assists and Dakota Ayer one goal.
Goalie Adam Howser stopped 13 shots.
Brazo scored seven goals in a 10-9 loss to New Hartford on Saturday, Ayer and Hannah Partigianoni with a goal and an assist apiece and Howser with 18 saves. Ayer scored the only goal and Howser made 12 saves in a 2-1 loss to Clinton later on Saturday.
The Cortland team scored its only win of the tournament on Sunday, 3-2 over Midstate, as Brazo had all three goals and goalie Riley Delage stopped nine shots.
MITE C
Scoring goals for the Traver Mills team in the Fire on Ice Tournament were Rowan Dankert, Hunter Everle, Cody Paquin, Logan Swartz, Aidan Villnave and Reid Villnave. Jacob Couture was the lone goal-scorer for the Darl Zehr Photography team.
TYKES
Participating in the Tykes/Initiation Program squad for Cortland were Lucas Alan, Ashley and Jadyn Beams, Brendan Andrews, Mason Carroll, Brady Coffin, Jaxon Compagni, Naris Constantino, Jaden Duncan, Michael Green, Andrew Johnson, Dominic Jump, Benjamin McGrath, Rory Kent, Furious McIntyre, James Morse, Gabe and Liam O’Connor, Logan Paquin, Harper Shaw, Joseph Sherman, Caelynn Perry, Atwal Urlay and Trevor Walden.
SQUIRT TRAVEL
The Heritage Realty/Suit-Kote, Willcox Tire-Rick & Rich Towing/Contento’s beat host Elmira Red 6-1 on Sunday as Nate Evans led the way with two goals and two assists. Madeleine Erno and Liam Chase had a goal and an assist apiece for the winners, while Logan Griffen and Nick Gravel scored once each and Adam Buttaccio two assists.
Goalie Elizabeth Evans made 10 saves.
