Tourney time for Dragons

The basketball season will continue for SUNY Cortland teams, the men and women taking part in the ECAC Division III Upstate Championships this week.
Cortland women are the top seeds among six schools competing and have earned a bye into the semifinals. The semifinals and finals are being played at SUNY Oneonta Saturday and Sunday.
The Red Dragons are 22-6 on the season, but failed to receive an NCAA Division III tournament at-large bid after losing 75-59 to Brockport in the SUNY Athletic Conference playoff championship game.
Brockport earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament with that victory.
First round ECAC Upstate play begins Wednesday with sixth seed RIT (12-12) visiting third seed Potsdam (15-11) and fifth seed St. John Fisher (13-13) traveling to fourth seed Oswego (14-11).
In semifinal games Saturday, second seed Oneonta (19-8) will face the RIT-Potsdam winner at 6 p.m. and Cortland meets the Oswego-St. John Fisher survivor at 8 p.m.
The title game is Sunday at 2 p.m.
Cortland men are seeded third and will host sixth Medaille (15-12) from Buffalo on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Corey Gymnasium. It will be the ninth ECAC tournament appearance for the Red Dragons (19-7).
Brockport hosts semifinal and title games on Saturday and Sunday. The Cortland-Medaille winner advances to face the winner of the first-round game sending seventh seed Cazenovia to second seed Oswego on Saturday, game time 6 p.m.
Fifth seed Vassar (18-7) travels to fourth seed St. John Fisher (16-11) in the other quarterfinal game, the winner moving on to meet top seed Brockport (19-8) Saturday at 8 p.m.
The title game is Sunday at 2 p.m.

Wilk Leads Cazenovia
Tom Wilk, the 6-foot-8 center who helped Cortland High boys reach the Section 3 Class A title game last season, has been a big contributor in his freshman season at Cazenovia.
In an 84-73 loss to Baptist Bible in last weekend’s NEAC playoff championship game, Wilk came off the bench to score 14 points and grab 10 rebounds for the Wildcats. He made 7-of-10 shots from the floor in that loss.
Wilk has played in all 27 games for Cazenovia, which takes a 14-13 record into an ECAC Upstate Division III tournament first round game at Oswego on Wednesday. He is averaging 3.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, and has blocked 27 shots.
