Mites snare second in home ice tourney
The Cort-Lanes/Grand Rental Station/A&W/Farm Credit East/Graph-Tex team finished second in the Mite C Division of the Fire on Ice Tournament at the J.M. McDonald Sports Complex over the weekend.
In a 6-6 tie with Midstate on Friday, Hannah Partigianoni scored twice while Madeleine Erno, Kai Hokanson, Dillon Skinner and Gracie Patriarco scored once each and goalie Adam Howser made seven saves. Cortland came back from a 5-2 deficit with four third-period goals before Midstate tied the score with eight seconds left.
Grace Patriarco scored the goal and Howser stopped eight shots Saturday in a 1-1 tie with Elmira. Mitch Riter, Skinner and Partigianoni scored two goals each while Riley Delage and Patriarco scored once each in an 8-0 win over Center State on Sunday, Howser not having to make any saves.
In Sunday’s championship game Partigianoni had the lone goal and Howser stopped 13 shots in a 4-1 loss to Elmira.
The Pall Trinity/Heritage Realty of Central New York team went 1-0-2 over the weekend in the Snowbelt League Tournament, with no placing reported.
Izaiah Taylor had a goal and an assist, Adam Buttaccio a goal and goalie Brandon Ludwig 15 saves in a 2-2 tie with Skaneateles on Friday. Nate Evans had the goal and Ludwig stopped 19 shots Saturday in a 1-1 tie with Elmira. Nate Evans and Elisabeth Evans scored once each and Ludwig made eight saves later Saturday in a 2-1 win over New Hartford.
The Ithaca team went 1-0-1 and won the championship of the Central Section 19-Under Tournament over the weekend. The squad will represent the Central Section at the State Tier 2 Tournament in Perinton this Friday through Sunday.
Cortland’s Sabrina Edwards scored a goal while goalie Alyson Pace made 15 saves for the shutout in a 4-0 win over the Mohawk Valley Hurricanes. After a 0-0 tie with Lysander in which Sarah Eisenhut made 23 saves, the Shooting Stars were declared champions on goal differential as Lysander had also beaten Mohawk Valley.
Both Cortland Flames squads competed in the Fire On Ice Tournament. The Red team got goals from Reagan Hillman, Dominic Barbato, Tyler Poole and Jacob Couture against Elmira, while Poole had three goals and Barbato, Hillman, Reid Villnave, Tucker Gabriel and Christopher Yang against New Hartford. Mac Turcotte and Tyler Poole had two goals apiece in the finale against Center State while Logan Goodman, Ryan Poole, Hillman and Villnave scored once each.
The Black team opened against New Hartford and got four goals from Hunter Everle and one each from Padraic Andrews and Josh Hardesty. Jonathan Henry, Everle and Hardesty scored three goals each against Center State while Andrews scored once. Hardesty, Everle and Henry scored once each in the finale against Elmira.
