With 10 different players scoring at least one goal, the Purple Tigers crushed host Chittenango 24-3 Tuesday afternoon to improve to 4-1 in the OHSL Class B Division and 4-2 overall.
“Our shooting was over 64 percent, a very efficient game,” Purple Tigers coach John Spallone said. “We played an excellent team game with 17 assists out of 24 goals. We moved the ball very well and our transition game was very sharp.”
Senior midfielder Colby Reagan led the scoring assault with four goals and an assist, while another senior midfielder, Austan DiIorio, scored four goals.
Senior attack Phil Potter, back after missing one game due to a concussion suffered in a 17-7 loss at Homer back on April 7, had three goals and three assists, while sophomore midfielder Pat McMahon and senior attack Dave Fernandes notched three goals and two assists apiece.
Junior attack-midfielder Chad Timmons scored twice and added two assists, while senior midfielder T.J. Bardsley had two goals and an assist, sophomore midfielder Andrew Potter a goal and three assists, junior midfielder Kody Becker a goal and an assist and junior attack Brandon Paquin one goal.
“We dominated all facets of the game. Our ride was particularly effective, creating a number of turnovers, especially in the first quarter,” said Spallone, as the visitors exploded for an 11-2 advantage over the opening 12 minutes to settle the issue early. “I was glad to see the kids respond to a couple of answering goals by Chittenango with an 8-1 second quarter, allowing us to begin using our reserves before half time. We were able to do the things we wanted to.”
Junior Casey Bergeron started in goal and made seven saves, with three goals allowed, in 29 minutes. Senior Alex Stevens made two saves and held the Bears (0-4, 1-5) — who were outshot 37-14 — scoreless over the final 19 minutes.
Adam Donner stopped 11 shots for Chittenango, which got single goals from Lucas Bicknell, Robert Whittin and William Berry.
