Soggy Trojans sweep at CHS

Homer Central boys and girls each scored a pair of team victories in an OHSL Freedom Division track and field tri-meet held at Cortland High’s Moiseichik Field on a less-than-ideal Wednesday afternoon.
In a meet that became incomplete because of a rain storm — with the girls’ 200-meter dash, the boys’ 3,200-meter run, the girls’ 3,000-meter run, both 4x400-meter relays and the final triple jump results among the missing — the Trojan boys beat the host Purple Tigers 67-47 and Fowler High out of Syracuse 65-52 to improve to 3-1 on the season.
With junior Jade Auchmoody featured in four victories, Homer girls are now a perfect 4-0 in duals after beating Cortland 66-39 and Fowler 88-16.
The CHS boys also lost to Fowler 72-45 are are now 0-3, while the Purple Tiger girls downed Fowler 59-30 and are now 1-2 this spring.
Homer boys were led by Robby Johnson capturing the 110-meter high hurdles in 18.74 and the 400m intermediate hurdles in 1:10.0 — both personal best clockings. Teammate Austin Smith was first in both the high jump at 5 foot-6 iniches and the pole vault at 9-feet even.
Luke Tesoriero won the 1,600m in 5:00 for the Trojans, qualifying for sectionals, and was also part of the 3,200m relay team that won in 9:01.9, along with Jayden Gavidia, Alex Fisher and Jeremy Morris.
Gavidia was also in on the 400m relay win in 46.3, along with Devon Drake, Dylan Shattuck and Jeremy Morris. Nick Yarnell won the long jump at 17-1.
Zach Forrester accounted for both of Cortland’s first-place finishes, in the 400m (52.8) and 800m (2:13.5).
Also qualifying for sectionals for Homer were Yarnell in the 400m (second in 53.9) and Dylan Shattuck in the 200m (24.2).
Trojan personal bests came from Chase Ely in the 100m and 200m; Cody Hubert and Tyler Hatfield in the 400m; Fisher, John Osterhoudt, Alex Levitskiy, Hatfield and Tighe with 800m splits; Johnson in the high jump and long jump; Evan Lewis in the high jump and shot put; Christian Pittsley and John Osterhoudt in the long jump and Tim Swenson and Jared Rogers in the shot put. Gugerty, Alex Levitskiy, Josh Sands and Liam George has season bests in the 800m, as did bill McLaughlin, George and Sands in the 1,600m.
Auchmoody starred for Homer girls, winning the 1,500-meters in 5:08.0, the 800m in 2:30.6 and the pole vault at 8 feet-6 inches in addition to teaming up with Erin Leach, McCayla Crawford and Grace Gugerty to win the 3,200m relay in 11:29.7.
Other Trojan winners were Jekeytha Adkins in the 100m hurdles (17.1), Erica Stevens in the 400m (1:03.9), Erin Leach in the 400m hurdles 1:13.0 and Emily Harrington in the high jump (4-10).
Cortland had two double winners.
Emily Ross won the shot put at 29-9 and the discus at 89-1, while Katie Dovi won the long jump at 15-5 and combined with Kayla Andrews, Rebecca Alteri and Monica Millick to win the 400m relay in 53.4.
Crawford qualified for sectionals in the 1.500m for Homer, while personal bests came from Lydia Brown, Abby Gray and Lauren Fisher in the discus. Season bests were recorded by Erica Stevens, Rachael Church, Jenna DeLine, Lindsey VanDusen, Milly Zimmerman and Fisher in the 100m, Gray in the 800m and Katie Ryan, Sara McNamara and Fisher in the shot put.
Both Homer teams will take part in the Dan Favril Ithaca Relays Friday evening, while Cortland’s boys and girls will compete in the Chittenango Relays Friday afternoon and evening.
