Cincy softball gets no-hit

Kelly Greene threw her second no-hitter of the season Tuesday afternoon as the visiting Stockbridge Valley softball team scored an 8-2 Central Counties League win over Cincinnatus.
DeRuyter beat visiting Madison 7-4 in another league game while Tully hammered McGraw 23-10 in a non-leaguer. In CCL baseball action, McGraw blanked visiting Cincinnatus 4-0 and Madison shaded host DeRuyter 12-11 in nine innings.
Stockbridge Valley 8, Cincinnatus 2: Greene chalked up eight strikeouts in her gem, the Red Lions (3-7 league and overall) taking advantage of eight walks and a Cougar error to score their runs. Tiffani Jacobs went 4-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and four runs scored for the winners, who finished their league championship season at 11-1 and are now 13-3 overall. Olivia Marshall went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run.
Sarah Clements and Emma Gendron scored the runs for Cincy, was to host DeRuyter today at 4:30 p.m.
DeRuyter 7, Madison 4: Miachaela Gordon threw a three-hitter with nine strikeouts as the Rocket improved to 8-3 in league play and overall. Mikayla Quigley went 3-for-4 with a run for the winners while Tayler Marshall went 2-for-3 and two players — Alexis Marshall (double, three RBIs, two runs) and Andrea Chapman (home run two RBIs, run) went 2-for-4.
Tully 23, McGraw 10: The visiting Black Knights (10-6) rolled to a 23-2 lead before the Eagles (1-13) scored eight runs in the bottom of the seventh to make the final score closer. Lynesie Busby-VanCise went 3-for-4 with two runs, Jade VanWagenen was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run and Miranda Oot homered, drove in two runs and scored twice for McGraw, which hosts Cincinnatus Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Morgan Hiltbrand went 6-for-6 with three RBIs and two runs to pace Tully’s 27-hit attack while Jessica Swift went 4-for-4 with six runs and Maggie Kosalek went 4-for-5 with three runs.
McGraw 4, Cincinnatus 0: Devon Tuttle threw a four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts as the Eagles won their fourth in a row to improve to 3-8 in league play and 7-10 overall.
Ryan Sherwood (two doubles, RBI, two runs) and Chris Pickert (RBI, run) both went 2-for-3 for the winners while Tyler Enright was 2-for-3 for the Red Lions (0-8, 0-9).
“Our offense sputtered today, but Devon threw the ball very well and we played well behind him,” said McGraw coach Abe Johnson. “I can see the confidence growing with each win. These kids don’t quit.”
Cincy was to host DeRuyter today before McGraw visits on Thursday, both games starting at 4:30 p.m.
Madison 12, DeRuyter 11, 9 innings: The Blue Devils (7-3, 8-8) scored three runs in the top of the ninth and cut off a rally by the Rockets (5-6, 6-7) one run short to earn the win.
Hunter Way went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and two runs for DeRuyter while Zach Best was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run and Zach Marshall went 2-for-5 with two runs.
Alex Cotter went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs for Madison while winning pitcher Dawson Eckrich (RBI, three runs) and Noah Barker (run) both went 2-for-4 and Jordan Crane (three RBIs, run) and Mike Ford (two RBIs, run) were both 2-for-5.
