Hubbard brothers pace Gator’s win

The Hubbard Brothers made an eighth-inning delivery.
Dave Hubbard and Eric Hubbard each hit two-run homers in the top of the extra frame to help Gator’s Tavern post a 17-13 come-from-behind victory over NAPA in Cortland Men’s Slow Pitch League B Division softball action Friday night.
In other B Division contests, Bow Jen Archery/American Legion Post 489 doubled up Ivan’s 14-7 and The Tavern B rallied for a 7-6 triumph over Red Jug Pub.
In the C Division, Outdoor Solutions pounded Woody’s 20-4 in five innings, Brix Puberia trimmed Meldrim Paint 12-11 and King Sub crushed Stone Lounge 24-9 in six innings.
B DIVISION
Gator’s 17, NAPA: The Hubbards matched each other in the final box score as well. Each brother went 4-for-4 with a double, home run and four RBIs as Gator’s scored 12 runs in its final four innings to overcome an early 9-2 deficit. Billy Epp added a 4-for-5 effort with two doubles for the winners while Tom Cullip was 2-for-4.
Steve Phillips led NAPA by swinging a 4-for-5 bat with a double.
Bow Jen/Post 489 14, Ivan’s 7: Dave Forehand was a perfect 4-for-4 with one double as Bow Jen/post 489 built a 12-3 advantage over the first four innings in the first-place showdown with Ivan’s. Eugene Forehand added a 3-for-3 effort and was the winning pitcher.
Randy Phillips was 3-for-4 while Scott Knight went 2-for-3 for Ivan’s. Prior to the start of the game, Ivan’s players dedicated the game and the remainder of their season to teammate Rick Stauber, who was injured in a work accident earlier in the week.
Tavern B 7, Red Jug Pub 6: Paul Yarnell completed a 3-for-3 night as The Tavern B All-Stars plated six runs in the top of the seventh inning to overcome a 4-1 deficit. Jarrod Newcomb added a 2-for-3 plate night with one double.
Chuck Benjamin (double) and A. Reeners each provided 3-for-3 nights for Red Jug Pub.
C DIVISION
Outdoor Solutions 20, Woody’s 4: Garrett Stage was 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs as undefeated Outdoor Solutions scored early and often in this shortened contest. Josh Brown was also 3-for-3 while Brian Clifford (triple), Chris Maxfield (double) and Matt Robinson each went 3-for-4.
Brix Puberia 12, Meldrim Paint 11: Jeremy Baker was 3-for-4 with a home run as Brix Puberia built a 12-5 lead, but needed to survive a late-game rally by Meldrim Paint. Justin Baker added a 3-for-4 bat with one triple for the winners. Chris McMillan, Joel Rivera (double), Dave Bloodgood (double) and Jamie Sutton (two doubles) added two hits each to the winning offense.
Meldrim Paint scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and plated two more runs in the seventh only to fall one run short. Judson Wilkins, Chris Carpenter and Jeremy Hutchings joined Corey Maxson in delivering solid 4-for-5 plate efforts. Jason Schlenker chipped in with his 3-for-4 bat.
King Sub 24, Stone Lounge 9: King Sub scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and matched that total in the second to race to a 16-2 advantage. Vince Byrne led the way by going 3-for-4 with a triple, home run and five RBIs. Cliff Quick, Greg Carrier (double) and Dan Warner added 3-for-4 efforts.
Joey Marks and a player whose actual name was not reported led Stone Lounge by going 3-for-3, while Chris Beebe went 2-for-3 with a triple and home run.
