Gator’s nips Easy Street

Bob Durbin supplied the game-winning hit in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift Gator’s Tavern to a 10-9 win over Easy Street Tuesday in Cortland Men’s Slowpitch Softball League B Division action.
In other B Division clashes, Red Jug Pub Pub nipped Stone Lounge 10-9 and Red Dragon blanked The Tavern 15-0 in six innings.
In A Division play, Ink’d needed just six innings to post a 25-6 victory over Study Hall while Grand Rental Station downed Bow Jen/Post 489 by an 18-10 count.
Gator’s Tavern 10, Easy Street 9: This tight battle featured four lead changes and one tie as Gator’s evened its record at 4-4. After Easy Street took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Greg Carrier belted a grand-slam home run as part of Gator’s seven-run spurt in the bottom of the same inning. Carrier finished the night by going 2-for-3 with four RBIs.
Easy Street retook the lead in the second with four runs while scored once. The home team tied the game at 9-9 in the bottom of the third inning before Carriers winning hit in the fifth.
Durbin, Bronson McCall and Joe Magee all swung 2-for-3 bats for the winners. McCall recorded eight putouts in left field.
G. Stage went 3-for-4 to lead Easy Street. Tim Mack added a 2-for-3 effort with two doubles while Mike Cullip was also 2-for-3.
Red Jug Pub 10, Stone Lounge 9: Nate Leonard was 3-for-3 with a double as Red Jug Pub rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 10-9 victory.
Mike Reeners was also 3-for-3 for the winning team.
J. Mahuick went 3-for-4 for Stone Lounge. Mike Lederman added a home run to the cause.
Red Dragon 15, The Tavern 0: After taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Red Dragon pulled away with six runs in the third inning and five more runs in the fourth. Chris Beattie, Derek Allen, Dick Arnold, Dan Edwards and Jason Schumacher led the Dragons with their 3-for-4 bats.
Beattie had one home run, scored three times and drove in two runs. Schumacher also had three RBIs while Allen had a double and scored twice. Arnold scored two times and drove in two runs. Mike Milligan was a perfect 3-for-3 for Red Dragon and Justin Hogan was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs.
Jeremy Gratton belted a triple as one of the four Tavern hits. The Tavern defense also turned a second-inning double play.
Ink’d 25, Study Hall 6: Study Hall was short one man and proved to be no match for Ink’d. T.J. Casterline did go 3-for-4 with a double while Steve Young was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles for Study Hall.
Scott Knight went 5-for-5 with a triple and home run to power the Ink’d offense. Tim Robison was also 5-for-5 with a triple while Jeremy Sutton was 5-for-5 with a double. Jamie Sutton was perfect in four plate appearances with a double while Josh Sutton and Randy Phillips (triple) each provided 3-for-5 efforts.
Grand Rental Station 18, Bow Jen/Post 489 10: Grand Rental broke a 3-3 first-inning tie with four runs in the top of the second, four more runs in the third and three in the fourth to build a 14-6 advantage. Each two scored four runs over the final three innings.
Jason Lansing was 4-for-4 with two doubles to pace Grand Rental. Chad Worsell added a 4-for-5 bat with a double and two triples while Jason Bennison was 3-for-4 with a triple.
Tito Ortiz led Bow Jen/Post 489 with a 4-for-5 night that included two doubles. Frank Tibke and Joey Volpicelli each swung 3-for-4 bats.
— In a late reported game from last week, Red Jug Pub topped Brix 9-2 behind two-hit games from Jason Seamans, Barry Shaver, Nate Leonard and Brian Soeffing.
