Brix gets the best of Pappa’s.. twice
Brix picked up a pair of Cortand Fastpitch League softball victories Monday night, out-lasting Pappa’s 19-13 in the completion of a suspended game from May 23 before winning 7-4 in the regularly-scheduled game between the teams.
Dark Horse stayed unbeaten by beating Mr. B’s 8-4 in the night’s other contest played at Meldrim Field.
Brix 19, Pappa’s 13: Brix trailed 8-0 after the first inning of the game on May 23 and was still down 11-10 before exploding for nine runs in the bottom of the sixth. Ben Albright led the way, going 4-for-4 with a double and four RBIs and four runs, while Cale Giroux went 3-for-5 with a triple. Going 2-for-4 were Abe Johnson (home run, four RBIs), Mike Avery (triple, double) and Sean Caughey. Roger Karn was the winning pitcher.
Burk went 2-for-3 with a triple, double, RBI and four runs for Pappa’s, while Josh Wood was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs.
Brix 7, Pappa’s 4: Giroux went 3-for-3 with a triple and a run while Mark Kinner, Caughey and Albright all went 2-for-4. Tom Avery homered and drove in two runs to support winning pitcher Dick Meldrim, who allowed two earned runs and fanned a batter in throwing a complete game.
Komanecky went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Pappa’s, with Jeff Lowe (two runs) and Josh Wood both going 2-for-4 and Dave Hartnett hitting a solo homer.
Dark Horse 8, Mr. B’s 4: Jeff Carr drove in five runs, going 2-for-4 with a homer and a run, as the winners improved to 7-0. Ed Southworth (double) and Bill Weddle (double) both went 2-for-3, while Dennis Hopkins went 2-for-4 with a double and Tony Whitt 2-for-5 with a double. Bill Morse threw a complete game with 13 strikeouts for the mound win.
Greg Newkirk went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and for Mr. B’s, while Morgan DuBois (double) and Al Ondrako both went 2-for-4.
