Locals are big medal collectors

Timothy Herman led the Cortland YMCA Masters swimming team’s successful performance last Saturday at the Empire State Senior Games competition at SUNY Cortland’s Park Center.
Competing in the Men’s 55-59 age group at Holsten Pool, Herman won gold medals in all six events he swam, including the 500-yard freestyle (7:27.33), 50 backstroke (41.6), 200 individual medley (no time), 200 backstroke (3:24.57), 200 free (2:49.00) and 50 free (29.94).
Michael Kennedy went four-for-four in gold medals in the Men’s 50-54 group, winning the 100 IM (1:16.07), 100 backstroke (1:24.34), 200 IM (3:00.00) and 200 backstroke (3:05.32). Suzanne Austin (Women’s 55-59) won gold in the 50 back (52.59) and 100 breaststroke (1:51.04) and silver in the 100 IM (1:42.92), 50 free (35.66), 50 butterfly (51.00) and 50 breaststroke (48.36).
Kathryn Gilleran (Women’s 60-64) won gold in the 200 butterfly (4:42.00) and 50 free (46.62), silver in the 100 IM (2:06.62) and bronze in the 500 free (9:47.19), 50 butterfly (55.00) and 100 free (no time reported). Margaret Anderson (Women’s 60-64) won gold in the 50 butterfly and 100 butterfly (no times) and silver in the 500 free (7:45.38) and 200 IM (no time). Steve Dafoe (men’s 55-59) won gold in the 100 breaststroke (2:45.00) and 100 free (1:55.00) and silver in the 500 free (11:32.14) and 50 free (44.66).
Douglas Rahner (Men’s 50-54) won the 50 breaststroke (43.05), was second in the 200 breaststroke (3:44.92) and took bronze in the 100 IM (1:27.9) and 50 butterfly (49.64). Mark Masler (Men’s 50-54) won silver in the 100 IM (1:21.80), 50 free (29.39), 50 butterfly (34.84) and 100 free (1:07.6). Kathleen Elliott-Birdsall (Women’s 50-54) took silver in the 500 free (7:47.97), 100 IM (1:32.98) and 50 butterfly (42.80) and Linda Riggins (Women’s 70-74) took bronze in the 500 free (no time).
