Brix solidifies hold on first
Dick Meldrim pitched a three-hit shutout Monday night as Brix solidified its hold on first place in the Cortland Mens’ Fastpitch League with a 2-1 win over Dark Horse.
Central City Bar & Grill beat Syracuse/Auburn 15-5 in another league contest, while the results of the game between Mister B’s and Syracuse/Auburn were not reported.
Brix 2, Dark Horse 1: Meldrim (3-0), who didn’t record any strikeouts, out-pitched Billy Morse, who also allowed only three hits in the game and fanned nine Brix batters. Abe Johnson doubled in the third and later scored on an error to give Brix (6-0) a 1-0 lead, and Brandon Galutz tripled home Ben Albright, who had reached on a fielder’s choice, in the sixth to make it 2-0. Dennis Hopkins doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Bill Weddle for Dark Horse (5-2).
Johnson went 2-for-3 with the double and run as the only player in the game with more than one hit.
Central City Bar & Grill 15, Syracuse/Auburn 5: Morgan DuBois went 4-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs for Central City (4-3), while Mark Kinner was 2-for-3 with a double, homer, three RBIs and two runs. Also going 2-for-3 for the winners were Brian Ballard (homer, two RBIs, two runs), Greg Newkirk (triple, two RBIs, two runs), Al Ondrako (double, RBI, two runs) and T. Kirchner (run).
Chris Amoia homered, drove in two runs and scored once for Syracuse/Auburn (0-5), while Ed Charles doubled and scored a run.
