Cortland’s Brown gets 1st-team nod

Senior midfielder Maggie Brown is Cortland High’s lone representative on the OHSL Freedom Division girls’ all-star first team for the lacrosse season just past.
Brown scored 79 goals and added eight assists for 87 points in her only varsity season for the Purple Tigers.
She is joined on the first team by junior attack Taylor Fallon from Jamesville-DeWitt, juniors Kali Domicolo (attack), Jessica Lawler (midfielder) and Joelle Lombardoni (midfielder) and sophomore defender Bailey Groves from Freedom American Division champion Mexico, East Syracuse-Minoa junior attack Rachel Toole and senior midfielder Alex McEachron, seniors Erika Johnson (defender), Torrie Whelsky (goalie), junior attacks Erica Knaub and Kate Rothrock and sophomore midfielder Amelia Coakley from National Division champion Fulton and New Hartford senior attack Ashley Chanatry.
Fulton’s Drew White is the Coach of the Year.
Sophomore midfielder Liza Ferro (21-8-29) and junior defender Kelsey Quail (7-6-13) are the Purple Tigers’ second-teamers. Also on that squad are New Hartford midfielders Theano Alvanos (senior) and Annika Zalewski (sophomore), J-D seniors Taylor Bierwagon (attack) and Katie Maroney (defender), Fulton senior defender Hannah Dunsmoor and juniors Julia Ludington (midfielder) and Katelyn Caza (defender), Mexico sophomore goalie Sarah Brown, senior defender Emily Passer, junior midfielder Jamie Passer and junior defender Taylor Willsey and ES-M junior midfielder Nikki DeVona.
Juniors Rachel Prentice (midfielder, 10-5-15), Alexis Kryger (defender) and Taylor Tabel (defender, 10-7-17) and sophomore attack Taylor Thomas (20-13-33) earned honorable mention, along with Mexico attacks Alinda Dygert (junior) and Taylor Bentley (senior), J-D senior attacks Lauren Beville and Sonia Narsipur, New Hartford sophomore midfielder Sarah Alvanos and junior defender Alexis Jackson, Chittenango junior defender/midfielder Emily Gibbons, senior midfielder Brianna Schiedo and senior attack Ali Barber and Whitesboro junior attack Krysta Beha, senior goalie Gabrielle huther, senior defender Kim Spam and senior midfielder Emily Clark, ES-M sophomores Haley DeVona (attack) and midfielder Sam Dooling, junior defenders Amanda Marsh and Megan LeGro and senior attack Jill Alaimo and, from Fulton, senior attack Jordan Rizzo, junior defender Julia Spier, junior midfielder Alise Tallents, sophomore midfielder Casey Shannon and senior attack Andrea Gould.
Cortland coach Kim Pace said of Brown that “Maggie practiced the way she played, putting everything she had into everything she did. She was never willing to settle for anything less than her personal best and was never going to be beaten by anyone without putting up a fight. She helped lead her team by example and gave us a spark in so many games when we needed it most. She ended the season in the top two in every statistical category we keep track of. She was first in goals with 79, points with 87, ground balls with 113 and draw controls with 62, and second in assists with eight and caused turnovers with 39.”
