Cortland’s McMahon will play in Lax Classic

Cortland High midfielder Patrick McMahon is headed to play in the 2012 Brine National Lacrosse Classic in Maryland.
McMahon, the son of Joe and Judy McMahon, was named as a 2012 Brine National High School All-America and has been selected to represent the Syracuse Region at a gathering of national lacrosse talent being held in Boyds, Md., from June 30-July 3.
A junior on the Purple Tigers squad this past season, McMahon was third on the squad in scoring with 32 goals and 18 assists. Cortland finished up 10-6 under first-year head coach Matt Blaich.
The Brine National Lacrosse Classic brings the top 400 high school underclassmen in the country to one venue, where 16 regional teams will compete. The national champion will then qualify to compete in an International Championship later in the year.
McMahon is one of two players from the OHSL Freedom Division to be named to the team, along with Jamesville-DeWitt defenseman James McBurney. From the OHSL Liberty Division, attackman Tom McNaney, midfielder Kevin Hutchings and defenseman Nick Nye from Marcellus were named to the squad.
THE HOMER LACROSSE CAMP is slated for July 23-27 at Calale Field for boys entering grades 3-9 this coming fall.
Rich Cecconi is the camp director for the week-long session which runs from 10 a.m. until noon and 1-2:45 p.m. from Monday through Thursday — with only a morning session on Friday. Calale Field is located off Route 281 in Homer.
Applications are available on-line at www.homerlacrosse.com. There is a fee.
Geared 2 Sports/Graph Tex is the corporate sponsor for the camp, which is designed to help those with or without lacrosse experience to be instructed on basic fundamentals and the skills needed for each individual position.
Contact Cecconi at 749-4167 with any questions.
