Tavern B hands 1st setback to King Sub

The Tavern B jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first two innings and rode that early momentum to a 9-6 Cortland Men’s Slowpitch Softball League victory over previously undefeated B Division leader King Sub Thursday night.
In other B Division action, King Sub bounced back with a 14-8 win over Easy Street, Study Hall nipped Red Dragon 7-6 and Brix chomped on Gator’s Tavern 7-4.
In A Division play, Coach’s Corner downed The Tavern A/Nick’s Barber Shop 9-5 and Red Jug Pub dumped Ink’d 10-8.
B DIVISION
The Tavern B 9, King Sub 6: Despite the early eight-run advantage, The Tavern B needed to hold off a determined comeback bid by King Subs.
Paul Yarnell and Mark Helms paced the winning attack as each guy went 3-for-4.
Blake Randolf topped the King Sub batters by going 3-for-4 while Aaron Galutz hit a home run.
King Sub 14, Easy Street 8: Easy Street led 8-1 after scoring eight times in the bottom of the second inning, but Josh Wright drove home six runs as it was all King Sub the rest of the way. Wright finished 2-for-3 with a double.
Dustin Rainbow led the King Subs attack as he went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Nick Mich and Tim Carr added 2-for-3 bats while Blake Randolf was 2-for-4 with two doubles.
Brian Dyer was 2-for-3 for Easy Street. Gavin Stage went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Study Hall 7, Red Dragon 6: Study Hall scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 5-3 lead but needed to score the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Chris Beebe led the way for Study Hall by going 2-for-3 with a double and home run. Dan Marks, Richie Price and John Canzano were all 2-for-3 for the winners.
Steve Wright was 3-for-3 with a home run for Red Dragon.
Brix 7, Gators 4: Winning pither Tonee LeBar drove in five runs while going 4-for-4, with teammate Jim Sullivan also having 4-for-4 plate perfection.
A DIVISION
Coach’s Corner 9, Tavern A/Nick’s Barber Shop 5: Coach’s Corner broke a 4-4 tie with five runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull out the victory.
Dave Pitts swung the hot bat as he went 4-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs for Coach’s Corner. Billy Maul and Tim Wright added 2-for-3 bats. Maul had a triple and three RBIs.
Luke P. was 3-for-3 with a home run for The Tavern A/Nick’s Barber Shop. Luke S. added a 2-for-3 effort.
Red Jug Pub 10, Ink’d 8: Red Jug Pub broke a 4-4 tie by scoring six runs in the top of the fifth inning. Ink’d tried to battle back, but fell just short.
Adam Reeners and Tim Robinson hit doubles for Red Jug Pub. Tyler Vandemark hit a double and home run for Ink’d. Josh Sutton also homered for Ink’d.
