Tavern’s new duds do the job

The Tavern broke out new uniforms and promptly snapped a four-game losing streak.
Nick Peters led the way by going 3-for-3 with a double and triple as The Tavern scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal a 13-9 Cortland Men’s Slowpitch Softball League B Division victory over Gator’s Tavern.
In other B Division games Tuesday night, Stone Lounge rolled 23-2 over Study Hall in five innings and Red Jug Pub was a 12-8 winner over O’Connor & Kruman/Outdoor Solutions.
In A Division contests, Grand Rental Station out-slugged American Legion Post 489 25-12 and Ink’d downed The Study Hall 17-3.
The Tavern 13, Gator’s Tavern 9: The Tavern fell behind 3-0 after the top of the second inning, but scored three times in the bottom of the inning to knot the score. The home added three more runs over the next two inning for a 6-3 advantage, Both teams plated one fifth-inning run and Gator’s tallied once in the top of the sixth before The Tavern’s six-run burst. One last Gator’s rallied netted four runs in the seventh before the game ended.
Mark Helms broke out of his batting slump as he was 3-for-4. Jarrod Newcomb was also 3-for-4 for The Tavern.
Cliff Quick paced Gator’s by going 3-for-4 with a triple.
Stone Lounge 23, Easy Street 2: Stone Lounge enjoyed a 5-2 lead before batting around three times during an 18-run fifth inning which ended the game.
Danny Marks led the attack going 4-for-5 with a double and triple. Rich Price (home run) and L. Mayor added 3-for-5 efforts while Nick Hoffmann, Dan Kile, Pete Wells and L.Carrian (home run) each provided 3-for-4 bats.
Dustin DiIorio was 2-for-2 with a home run for Easy Street.
Red Jug Pub 12, O’Connor/Outdoor 8: Leading 7-6 through three innings, Red Jug Pub crossed home plate once in the fourth inning and twice in the fifth to build up a 10-6 cushion.
Brian Soeffing led the Pubsters as he went 3-for-3 with a home run. Chuck Benjamin and Kyle Rogers (triple) added 2-for-3 plate appearances.
Matt Compton powered O’Connor & Kruman/Outdoor Solutions swinging his 3-for-4 bat with one double. Matt Robinson and Effinger (triple) were each 2-for-3.
Grand Rental Station 25, American Legion Post 489 12: Division leader Grand Rental Station had its hands full with its visiting counterpart for five and one-half innings. Leading 8-5, Grand Rental plated seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to increase its advantage to 15-5. Post 489 rallied with six runs in the top of the sixth to close to 15-11, but the home team scored 10 times in the bottom of the inning to seal the deal.
Jason Lansing and Troy Boice were the top Grand Rental batters as they each went 4-for-4. Lansing had two doubles and one home run, Boice one double and one triple. Tom Avery (double) and Jason Bennison each added 3-for-4 nights.
Tito Ortiz led Post 489 going 4-for-5 with a double. Tony Volpicelli chipped in with his 4-for-4 effort and Codi Clayton went 3-for-4 with a double and home run.
Ink’d 17, The Study Hall 3: Ink’d scored seven runs in the first inning and built a 10-0 cushion before The Study Hall got on the scoreboard.
Randy Phillips (home run) and Ryan Briggs (double) led the winning attack with 4-for-4 batting performances. Dan Briggs (home run) and Scott Knight (double) added 3-for-4 efforts while Tyler Vandemark was 2-for-4 with a double.
T.J. Casterline, Chris Beebe, Rogers and Chance each went 2-for-3 for The Study Hall.
