NAPA grabs National Division top spot

NAPA overcame a 3-1 deficit to beat Ivan’s 4-3 Thursday night and take over sole possession of first place in the Cortland Men’s Slow Pitch Softball League’s National Division. The two teams came into the game tied for first at 12-2.
In other National Division games, Hess beat King Sub 9-8 and Friends topped The Tavern 14-8.
In the American Division, Red Dragon rallied to shade Beer Goggles 14-13, first-place Grand Rental Station whipped Gator’s Tavern 19-4 in a five-inning mercy rule game, Stone Lounge/Willcox Tire was a 6-4 winner over Red Jug Pub and Central City Bar & Grill rolled to a 19-3 win over Dark Horse/Hairy Tony’s.
National Division
NAPA 4, Ivan’s 3: The winners tied the game with two runs in the fourth inning and then got the game-winner in the fifth. Brian Dyer (double), John Canzano (double) and Dan Jampole all went 2-for-3 for NAPA, while T. Marshall doubled for Ivan’s, which managed only four hits off winning pitcher Bill Phillips.
Hess 9, King Sub 8: Hess scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win, Vic Quaile scoring the game-winning run while Steve Furlong (double) and Nick Hoffmann both went 4-for-4 and Richie Price had a triple and a double. Kozlowski went 2-for-3 for King Sub.
Friends 14, The Tavern 8: Friends scored five runs each in the fourth and sixth innings after trailing 7-4 as A. Ortiz and Ja. Baker both went 3-for-4 while Je. Baker and A. Smith both doubled. Jr. Newcomb went 3-for-4 and P. Natale doubled for The Tavern.
American Division
Red Dragon 14, Beer Goggles 13: After Beer Goggles scored eight runs in the top of the seventh to rally for a 13-12 lead, Red Dragon scored twice in the bottom of the seventh as Aron Avery, who went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, singled home the game-winner. Jose Feliciano (home run) was 3-for-3 while Chris Beatty and Dicky Arnold both went 3-for-4 for Red Dragon. P. Weski was 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for Beer Goggles.
Grand Rental Station/Gable Inn 19, Gator’s 4: Casey Crandall (triple, four runs, stolen base) and Brian Bowman both went 3-for-3 to lead the winners, while Brian Taylor (three runs), Jason Hogan (homer), and Jamie Buck all went 2-for-3. Galleotti went 2-for-2 and scored a run for Gator’s.
Stone Lounge/Willcox Tire 6, Red Jug Pub 4: Brandon Maye turned a pair of unassisted double plays and was involved in another twin killing for the winners, while Dave Seamans went 3-for-3 with a triple and a double to pace the offense. Mike Browngardt went 2-for-3 in the losing effort.
Central City Bar & Grill 19, Dark Horse/Hairy Tony’s 3: Winning pitcher Frank Tibke went 4-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs for Central City, while Jim Hogan went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Dennis Hopkins (triple, double, four runs), Fred Casterline (three RBIs) and Bill Francis (two runs) all went 3-for-4 and T.J. Griffin went 2-for-5 with a homer and four runs. Gaylord Bucci went 3-for-3 and led the defense for Dark Horse, while Andrew Pierce collected two RBIs and Scott Potter doubled.
