Big inning boosts Teeners

Though rainfall hindered what was going to be a busy weekend for the Cortland Crusaders, the lone contest the Tri-County Teeners League 15U baseball squad did get in proved to be worthwhile.
A seven-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth snapped a 3-3 tie and carried the Crusaders to a 10-5 victory over visiting M&T Bank out of Endicott on Sunday at Barry School’s Dave Guido Field.
The Crusaders (4-3) had a Saturday twin bill slated against Tioga rained out, and a second contest scheduled with M&T Bank was not played due to bad weather.
Starting with a Ryan Tillotson leadoff single and finished by a Curtis Wilk base hit that resulted in two runs, the Crusaders took control against M&T Bank with that seven-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth frame. Alfonse Gumaer doubled and James Lane singled during that decisive run rampage.
Cortland made the most of eight hits, winning pitcher Jake Prignon leading the way going 2-for-2. Prignon struck out six, walked two and allowed seven hits in his 5-1/3 innings of mound work, Will Pace coming on to pitch hit-less ball the rest of the way.
John Boedicker led M&T Bank’s seven-hit attack going 2-for-4 including a double.
Cortland has a week off before Tioga visits July 8 in a 5:30 p.m. start at Guido Field.
