Phillips perfect as NAPA adds to B lead

Bill Phillips went 4-for-4 with a double as first-place NAPA kept the pressure on the rest of the Cortland Men’s Slowpitch Softball B Division competition with a 20-5 victory over Hooley’s Green Tuesday.
The winners improved to 13-3 and padded their lead over second-place Hooley’s White (11-4), a 17-14 loser to St. Charles B. In other B Division play, Crown Liquor downed Beer Goggles 14-7, Tavern B edged Hess/Outdoor Solutions 11-10 and Gator’s Tavern pounded Friends 18-2.
In the C Division, King Sub beat Marietta 21-5, CCRP smoked K&H Motorsports 24-8 and Woodman’s Pub defeated Friends C 20-3.
NAPA 20, Hooley’s Green 5: NAPA trailed 4-1 after two innings, but took the lead with a six-run spurt in the top of the third. Nine more runs in the fourth allowed the division leaders to pull away. Steve Phillips added a 4-for-5 bat with a double and triple while Dave Hubbard went 3-for-5 with a home run. Chris Phalen and Dick Coats added 3-for-4 efforts.
Matt Rutkowski (double), John Ewanciw, Dan Kile and John Dean each went 2-for-3 for Hooley’s Green (7-8).
St. Charles B 17, Hooley’s White 14: St. Charles (3-11) scored nine runs in the top of the seventh inning to notched their third win of the season. Dan DeRancy hit a home run in a winning cause while Blake Battin added a triple.
Crown Liquor 14, Beer Goggles 7: Rick Stauber was 4-for-5 and Rob Green was 3-for-3 as Crown Liquor improved to 6-9 on the season. Mark Kinner and Tony Marshall added 3-for-4 efforts.
A.J. Albin went 3-for-4 for Beer Goggles (3-11).
Tavern B 11, Hess/Outdoor Solutions 10: Tavern B (8-6) trailed 10-2 before scoring nine runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for the victory. Steve Hartquist scored the tying run as he was driven home by Randy Arnold, who crossed the plate as the winning run after an errant throw. Pete Natale led the winning offense with two doubles and one triple.
Jaime Evans, Nate Forehand, Eugene Forehand and M. DeGraw each belted three hits for Hess (6-9).
Gator’s Tavern 18, Friends 2: Andy Ayers was 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs as Gator’s (10-6) jumped to a 14-0 lead before Friends (9-6) finally scored in the bottom of the fourth inning. John Wright added a 3-for-3 effort with one double while Shawn Jenney (2 doubles) and Mike Wehnke (double, triple, 4 RBIs) each added 3-for-4 winning performances.
Davey Seamans led Friends by going 2-for-2 with a home run.
King Sub 21, Marietta 5: C. Wilbur was 4-for-4 while Byrne was 3-for-3 and B. Stewart 3-for-4 with  a triple, three runs scored and three RBIs as King Sub (10-3) remains in first place.
J. Sutton, J. O’Brien, B. McAnulty and Mitro each had two hits for Marietta (0-11).
CCRP 24, K & H Motorsports 8: CCRP (7-8) plated 14 runs in the first inning and never looked back. Dave Morris went hit for the cycle by going 5-for-5 with a double, triple and home run for the winners. T. Boner added a 4-for-5 effort with two doubles and one triple while R. Benson and N. Huffman (double) each went 3-for-5.
T. Ostrander was 3-for-4 with a double for K&H (9-5).
Friends C 20, Woodman’s Pub 3: Corey Romans was a perfect 4-for-4 with a triple to lead Friends (8-6) to a big win.
Brian Luther added a 3-for-4 winning night with one home run.
Josh Sutton paced Woodman’s Pub (7-6) by going 3-for-3.
