Luety ‘B’ first-teamer
More honors have come in for Gabby Luety as the holiday weekend approaches. The Homer Central School catcher was named New York State Class B Softball First-Team All-State for her 2009 junior season.
Luety, who was also earned All-CNY, Liberty Division Co-Player of the Year and Liberty Division First-Team All-Star honors, hit an even .500 (41-for-82) this season with nine doubles, four triples, four home runs, 28 runs scored and 31 RBIs. Her slugging percentage finished at .854. All the above were team high’s or tied for team-high honors. Luety also walked 14 times, stole six bases and struck out just three times.
Joining Luety on the All-State first-team were sophomore pitcher-second baseman Anna Arceneaux (Mechanicville-Section 2); freshman third base-shortstop Alysa Russell (Mechanicville-2); sophomore third base-pitcher Jessica Patterelli (Canastota-3); senior pitcher Dani Koltz (Chenango Valley-4); senior outfielder Demetra Kermidas (Chenango Valley-4), senior infielder Anne Wasik (Fredonia-6); senior infielder Sarah Shembeda (Olean-6); senior shortstop Jessalyn Sweeney (Pine Plains-9) and senior shortstop Stephanie Caso (Poly Prep-A).
There were a few other Section 3 and Section 4 softball players earning All-State honors. They include All-State Class B Second-Team picks junior Rebecca Griswold (Windsor-Section 4) and senior shortstop Kelsey Mullins (Susquehanna Valley-4). Third-team selections junior second baseman Meaghan Lewis (Chenango Valley-4) and freshman catcher Lindsey Haskell, (Susquehanna Valley-4); Fourth-Team junior shortstop Jessica Bump (Windsor-4), plus Fifth-Team senior pitcher Liz McGinley (Canastota-3) and junior pitcher Leslie Harlem (Oneonta-4).
