Dark Horse second baseman Chris Beattie leaps over Mike Holl (3) of Mr. b’s as he turns a doubleplay Wednesday at Meldrim Field. Dark Horse was a 7-1 fastpitch winner.

Stone Lounge was in some serious trouble Wednesday night at Meldrim Field.
The Cortland Fastpitch League softball leaders trailed last place Central City Bar & Grill 5-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning before staging a late-inning comeback, pulling out a 7-6 victory. Four runs in the bottom of the fifth started the revival for Stone Lounge (9-1), capped by an Aaron Galutz two-run double, before a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth secured the lead for keeps.
That comeback kept second place Dark Horse (7-4) from gaining any ground in the league standings, the Horsemen 7-1 winners over Mr. B’s to get this twin bill underway as winning pitcher Jeff Carr allowed just a lone third inning unearned run.
Stone Lounge 7, Central City 6: Ben Albright homered and drove in two runs, while Abe Johnson also picked up a pair of RBIs going 2-for-4 with a double, as Stone Lounge came from behind.
Ryan DuBois smacked a two-run homer and a triple for Central City, going 3-for-3 and scoring three times. Winning pitcher Roger Karn allowed just seven hits, striking out six and walking five while improving his mound mark to 5-0 on the season.
Dark Horse 7, Mr. B’s 1: Winning hurler Carr picked up his seventh mound victory after allowing eight hits, striking out seven and not issuing a free pass in his complete-game effort.
A dozen Dark Horse hits provided plenty of support, Chris Beattie with three of those base hits while driving home a pair of teammates. Gabe Newton had two hits, Mike Myers a pair of RBIs and Adam Koehler finished 2-for-3 and scored twice in the victory. A four-run Dark Horse outburst in the bottom of the sixth broke open a tight contest.
Matt Rutkowski was 3-for-4 and Mike Smith 3-for-3 to account for most of Mr. B’s offense.
After a break for the July 4th weekend, league play resumes next Wednesday at Meldrim Field.
l The annual Dick Finn Old Timers Fastpitch Classic will be played on Wednesday, July 21, at Cortland’s Meldrim Field starting at 6 p.m. All former Cortland, Ithaca, Truxton, and Church fastpitch players are also invited to go up against a current batch of Cortland Fastpitch League performers.

The softball contest was renamed a year ago after the passing of Dick “Fingers” Finn, a long-time participant of the local softball scenes.

Standings: Stone Lounge 9-1, Dark Horse 7-4, Mr. B’s 4-6, Central City Bar & Grill 1-10
