Cortland romps on one-hitter

CAMILLUS — Justin Sidebottom threw a complete-game one-hitter with 14 strikeouts Monday night as Cortland came off a 13-day layoff and rolled over host West Genesee 15-0 in a Greater Syracuse Baseball Association Connie Mack League game.
Sidebottom, now 3-1, carried a no-hitter into the seventh before Tommy Pinto led off the inning with a single to left for the hosts’ only hit. Sidebottom faced only 23 batters in the game, with only eight balls (five groundouts, an infield popout, an infield error on a ball hit by Pinto and the single) put into play. Sidebottom issued one walk, and that batter was thrown out by catcher Parker Williamson trying to steal second.
Collecting two hits apiece for Cortland, which had 13 hits in all and also took advantage of nine West Genesee errors, were Victor McCutcheon (RBI, four runs, two stolen bases), Caden Giroux (two RBIs, two runs, stolen base), Sidebottom (RBI, two runs, two stolen bases), Quinn Kennedy (RBI, run) and Zach Whalen (RBI). Connor Griffin drove in four runs and Brian Hughes tripled for the only extra-base hit in the game.
Cortland, now 8-2 in Division 3 and in second behind Syracuse CBA (7-1), hosts Skaneateles Wednesday at Beaudry Park starting at 7 p.m.
