Two wins add to NAPA’s lead

One night after winning a softball battle for first place in the Cortland Men’s Slow Pitch League’s National Division by beating Ivan’s, NAPA padded its lead by winning twice Friday night.
NAPA beat CCRP 17-4 and Hess 13-9 to improve its record to 15-2, two games ahead of Ivan’s.
Outdoor Solutions also picked up two wins in the National Division, 12-9 over Hess and 16-8 over CCRP, while King Sub doubled sister team The Tavern 8-4.
In the American Division, Red Dragon did all of its scoring in the final two innings in a wild 17-16 win over Red Jug Pub, which also lost to Hooley’s 15-11. Beer Goggles topped Gator’s 6-3 in another American Division contest.
NAPA 17, CCRP 4: John Canzano and Tim Mack both went 3-for-4 to pace a 21-hit attack for the winners, while Derek Fiene (double), Adam Potter (double), Mike Lederman, Brian Dyer and Bob Nelson all went 2-for-4. Elliott Mitz went 2-for-2 for CCRP, while Bob McAnulty (double) and Chris Beardsley both went 2-for-3.
NAPA 13, Hess 9: Winning pitcher Greg Zacek went 3-for-4 with a triple or NAPA, while Nick Hoffmann was 3-for-4 for Hess.
Outdoor Solutions 12, Hess 9: Outdoor Solutions tied the game with six runs in the fifth, then went ahead for good with four runs in the sixth and added two more in the seventh. Randy Johns went 4-for-4 with a home run to lead the way. Dave Forehand (double) and Chris Forehand both went 3-for-4, while winning pitcher Eugene Forehand went 2-for-2 with a double. Cody Clayton was 4-for-4 with a double for Hess, while Steve Furlong went 3-for-4.
Outdoor Solutions 16, CCRP 8: The winners got two more 4-for-4 performances, this time from winning pitcher Eugene Forehand (homer, double) and Matt Robinson, while Joel Rivera was 3-for-3 with a double, and both Dave Forehand (double) and Greg Eaton (double) went 3-for-4. Mike Cullip went 3-for-4 for CCRP, Elliott Mitz (triple) and Martin Rounds both went 2-for-3 and Jeff Zornow homered.
King Sub 8, The Tavern 4: King Sub trailed 4-1 after an inning but held The Tavern scoreless the rest of the way en route to the win. Tony Bates went 2-for-3 with a homer, double and three RBIs, while Cliff Quick (two RBIs) and Bob Durbin (RBI) both also had 2-for-3 nights. Matt Bush and Emmett Cole both went 2-for-3 for The Tavern.
Red Dragon 17, Red Jug Pub 16: trailing 8-0, Red Dragon scored seven times in the top of the sixth to make it a close game, only to see Red Jug Pub push three runs across in the bottom of the frame to go up 11-7. The winners then unleashed a 10-run seventh and held on as Red Jug scored five runs in the bottom of the final inning before its rally ended. Brett Wright went 4-for-5 with two doubles for Red Dragon while teammate Chris Beattie homered. Chuck Benjamin went 5-for-5 with two doubles for Red Jug Pub.
Hooley’s 15, Red Jug Pub 11: After Red Jug Pub batted around in the fifth and scored six runs to take an 11-10 lead, Hooley’s scored once in the bottom of that inning to tie the game and four more times in the sixth for the winning margin. Matt Rutkowski led the way for the winners, going 4-for-4 with a triple, double and five RBIs, while Kyle Green (two RBIs) and Kyle Sears (double) both went 3-for-4. Trevor Norman went 3-for-4 for Red Jug Pub, which also got 2-for-3 games from Nate Leonard and Sam Ingersoll.
Beer Goggles 6, Gator’s 3: Daron Foster went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and nine putouts defensively to lead Beer Goggles to the win. Doug Coville went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run, while Jeremy Hutchings (run), Bronson McCall (run) and J.D. Byrnes all went 2-for-3. Tom Cullip (double), Brian Hollenbeck and Mike Wehnke all had 2-for-3 nights for Gator’s.
