Cortland cruises behind Kennedy

MARCELLUS — Quinn Kennedy stood out on the mound and in the batter’s box for the Cortland Connie Mack baseball team Wednesday night.
In addition to earning the pitching win, allowing four hits and three runs in six innings with seven strikeouts, Kennedy went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in an 11-3 romp over host Marcellus.
Caden Giroux went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI while Andrew Babcock was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs and Jake Woods 2-for-5 with an RBI as Cortland improved to 7-1. Zach Whelan pitched a hitless and scoreless seventh inning in relief of Kennedy and recorded all three outs via strikeout.
Brian Carroll (RBI) and Matt Gooden, who took the mound loss, each had a double for Marcellus.
Cortland is tentatively scheduled to visit Tully Sunday in a 2 p.m. start and will host McGraw Monday in a doubleheader at Beaudry Park starting at 5:30 p.m.
Three games are on the Cortland County Babe Ruth schedule for this evening, including D.P. Dough visiting CFCU at Beaudry Park in Cortland at 5:45 p.m. McGraw travels to DeRuyter, while the Cortland Elks are at Fabius.
