Legion batters awaken

American Legion Post 489 scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday night to snatch a 12-11 Cortland Men’s Slowpitch League A Division softball win away from Central City/JMS Plumbing & Heating.
Grand Rental Station beat Ink’d 17-9 and Coach’s Corner was an 18-12 winner over Study Hall in other A Division games.
In the B Division, Red Jug Pub downed Stone Lounge 25-9, Red Dragon took Brix 16-4 and Easy Street was a 15-13 win over The Tavern.
Post 489 12, Central City 11: A bases-loaded walk scored Waylon DeGraw with the winning run, no other details of the five-run seventh reported. Matt DeGraw went 3-for-3 with a double while Joey Volpicelli (two doubles), Tony Ortiz and Codi Clayton were all 3-for-4 for the winners, Waylon DeGraw going 2-for-3 with a home run. Matt Rutkowski went 3-for-4 with two doubles for Central City, which got 2-for-3 games from Bill Francis, Jeff Hopkins and Greg Langtry.
Grand Rental Station 17, Ink’d 9: The winners erased a 3-1 deficit with a five-run outburst in the second inning and never looked back, Andrew Pierce going 4-for-5 with a homer to lead the way. Jason Reynolds (double) and Jason Hogan both went 3-for-4, while Brian Taylor Taylor (homer, double) and Seth Montgomery were both 3-for-5. Tim Robison went 3-for-3 for Ink’d.
Coach’s Corner 18, Study Hall 12: Brian Hollenbeck hit for the cycle en route to a 4-for-4 night with five RBIs for Coach’s Corner. Chuck Pitts finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs while Dave Pitts was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Anthony Pitts had a homer and a double for the winners. Chris Beebe went 4-for-4 with a triple and double for Study Hall, with Mike Russell (triple) and Schlenker (double) both going 3-for-4.
Red Jug Pub 25, Stone Lounge 9: Red Jug Pub was led by 4-for-4 bats from Steve Bradley (two doubles) and winning pitcher Jason Seamans, The winning offense also featured Chuck Benjamin (homer, double) and Trever Norman both going 4-for-5, with Barry Shaver hitting a homer and triple. Nick Hoffmann (triple), Dan Kyle (triple), Mike Lederman and Leo Mayers all went 3-for-4 for Stone Lounge.
Red Dragon 16, Brix 4: Steve Wright was the pacesetter of Red Dragon’s 26-hit attack, going 5-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs, while Ed Kelly (two doubles, three RBIs, two runs) and Mark Coon (two runs) both went 3-for-4 and Jeremy Milligan was 3-for-5 with a triple, double, four RBIs and two runs. Mike Wiese was 3-for-4 with a double for Brix, with Mike TenKate and M. Beckley both going 2-for-3.
Easy Street 15, The Tavern 13: A five-run fifth was the key to victory for Easy Street, which got 3-for-4 nights from Dustan DiIorio (homer), Derek Fiene (double) and Mike Eves while Tim Mack went 2-for-3 with a homer. Kenn Pease, Shawn Murphy and Jerrod Newcomb all went 3-for-4 for The Tavern.
