Bordwell clan is always on target

PREBLE — When it comes to 15-17 year old competitive archers, there are none better than Glen Bordwell of Preble.
Bordwell wrapped up a three-month battle by easily capturing the International Bowhunting Organization National Triple Crown Overall Championship this past week in Marengo, Ohio. Bordwell won the 15-17 Youth Male Release Class with a total of 1,241 points, including hitting the tiny “x” on his target 55 times.
He actually won all three legs of the competition that had roughly 50 competitors starting with May’s first leg in Bedford, Ind., and June’s second leg in Fairview, Pa., before wrapping things up in Ohio. Bordwell had winning scores of 414 (18x) in Bedford, 419 (23x) in Fairview and 408 (14x) in Marengo.
Not to be outdone, Bordwell’s sister Katelyn took fourth in the Female Youth Class. She posted a 1,200 total with 42 “x” hits that included 402 (14x) in Bedford, 404 (16x) in Fairview and 394 (12x) in Marengo.
Glen and Katelyn are the son and daughter of Jeff and Melissa Bordwell, owners of Legend of Fall Outfitters in Tully and they have been competing since a very young age. Older son Dillon has also been an active competitor, though he just finished gunsmithing school in Pittsburgh.
“Melissa and I are very proud of all children,” Jeff Bordwell said. “Glen is really looking like he will have a successful pro career. Dillon is going to have a gun shop in our store soon.”
Jeff Bordwell has had a long career in archery competition as well. He joined Glen and Katelyn as winners at the New York State Field Archers and Bowhunters Championships last March during the indoor season. The trio headed outdoors and won the New York State IBO Championships in May as well.
“I give a lot of credit to Melissa when it comes to competing in these tournaments,” Jeff Bordwell said. “She is the one who stays home and takes care of the store so we can travel to the different tournaments.”
Father, son and daughter will now look ahead to competing in the IBO World Championships Aug. 7-10 in Seven Springs, Pa.
