Storm upends Crush contest

The Cortland Crush’s New York Collegiate Baseball League home game with the Syracuse Salt Cats was postponed by a rain storm that blew through town Monday night.
The game will now take place as part of a doubleheader Friday on Greg’s Field starting at 3 p.m.
The Crush sits atop the league’s Eastern Division at 26-13, the Syracuse Junior Chiefs two and a half games back at 25-17 after sweeping a doubleheader from the Sherrill Silversmiths Monday, 8-3 and 9-1. The Salts Cats hold down third place, the final playoff spot, at 20-20.
Cortland was to visit the Salt Cats today at 7 p.m.; before a trip to Sherrill on Wednesday for a game that starts at noon. The Silversmiths visit Greg’s Field Thursday for a doubleheader staring at 3 p.m.
In other league games on Monday, the Western Division champion Olean Oilers improved to 36-6 with a 13-1 romp over the Rochester Ridgemen and the Genesee Rapids were 8-1 winners over the Hornell Dodgers.
The NYCBL playoffs are scheduled to start next Tuesday, with the second and third place finishers in each division facing off in a single elimination game. Each regular season champion receives a bye, and will host a best-of-three series for the division title.
The overall NYCBL Championship between the Eastern and Western Division survivors will also be a best-of-three series.

NYCBL Standings:
Eastern Division: Cortland 26-13, Syracuse Junior Chiefs 25-17, Syracuse Salt Cats 20-20, Rome Generals 17-24, Sherrill Silversmiths 14-25
Western Division: Olean Oilers 37-6, Wellsville Nitros 20-20, Hornell Dodgers 20-22, Genesee Rapids 16-25, Rochester Ridgemen 9-32
