Easy Street captures wild ‘B’ slugfest

The Mike and Mike combo came through with two-out hits in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Easy Street to a 13-12 come-from-behind softball victory over Gator’s Tavern in Cortland Men’s Slowpitch League B Division contest Thursday.
Mike Cullip drove in the tying run and Mike Eves drove in Cullip for the winning run. Cullip was 4-for-4 with two doubles and one triple.
In other B Division play, Red Dragon handed Gator’s a 13-6 setback earlier in the evening and Red Jug Pub posted a 13-7 win over Brix.
In A Division playoff action, Central City/JMS Plumbing & Heating and Coach’s Corner took 1-0 leads in their first-round, best-of-three series. Coach’s Corners posted a 20-15 victory over Ink’d while Central City/JMS pounded Study Hall 25-10 in a shortened five-inning contest.
Easy Street 13, Gator’s 12: Gator’s took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and built a solid 10-1 cushion through the top of the fourth inning. Easy Street began its comeback with six runs in the bottom of the fourth. Four more runs in the fifth put the Streeters in front 11-10, but Gator’s plated two runs in the top of the seventh for the lead. Dustan DiIorio went 3-for-3 with a double and home run for Easy Street. Justin Goodband was also 3-for-3 for the winners.
Andy Warholic and Tony Bates each swung 3-for-3 bats for Gator’s.
Red Dragon 13, Gator’s 6: Red Dragon jumped out to a 4-0 led in the top of the first inning and doubled its advantage in the second inning. Gator’s did cut the deficit to 10-6 by the end of the sixth inning, but Red Dragon pulled away with three seventh-inning runs.
Chris Beattie drove in six Dragon runs by going 2-for-3. He plated three with a home run and two more with a triple. Steve Wright and Jason Schumacher each added 3-for-4 efforts with one double, Jim Beattie went 2-for-3 and Jeremy Milligan was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
Mitch Bush led Gator’s by going 2-for-2. Joe Magee (home run) and Bob Gable each went 2-for-3.
Red Jug Pub 13, Brix 7: Red Pub Jug overcame a 7-2 deficit with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and a big nine-run sixth inning to post the victory.
Jason Seamans led the way with his 3-for-3 bat that included a triple. Trevor Norman added a 3-for-4 effort and Nate Leonard went 2-for-4. Jeremy Baker paced Brix as he went 3-for-3 with a double. Justin Baker was 2-for-3 with a two-bagger.
Coach’s Corner 20, Ink’d 15: In a battle of teams that finished 9-12 in the regular season, Coach’s Corner built an 11-0 lead thanks to a seven-run burst in the top of the fourth inning. Ink’d finally got its offense going in the bottom of the fifth with a huge 12-run explosion to take the one-run lead, but the visiting team didn’t panic. Coach’s Corner responded with a nine-run sixth inning to retake a 20-12 lead and held on for the victory.
Anthony Pitts paced the Coach’s attack. Pitts went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Dave Pitts (2 RBIs) and Tony Whitt (double, RBI) chipped in with 3-for-4 bats while Tim Wright was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.
Dan Briggs led Ink’d as he was 3-for-4 with a double and home run. Corey Romans was 2-for-3 with a double and home run.
Central City/JMS 25, Study Hall 10, 5 innings: Study Hall enjoyed a brief 6-0 lead after scoring those runs in the top of the first inning, but the joy was short-lived. Central City/JMS countered by sending 21 players to the plate in the bottom of the first and scored 17 runs to begin the rout.
Dennis Hopkins led the Central City assault by going 4-for-4. Pat Casselberry chipped in as he went 3-for-3 with a home runs and six RBIs. Cory Langtry was 2-for-2 with a triple, home run and five RBIs while Fred Casterline was 2-for-2 with two ribbies.
Brandon Galutz powered Study Hall with his 3-for-3 effort. Chris Beebe added a 2-for-3 night that included two doubles and three RBIs. T.J. Casterline and Derrick Rainbow (home run) also went 2-for-3.
