Central City/JMS breezes into semis

Pat Casselberry put on a power display as Central City/JMS Plumbing & Heating easily advanced to the Cortland Slowpitch League A Division Playoff semifinal round with a five-inning softball romp Friday.
Casselberry went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and home run while collecting five RBIs as Central City/JMS rolled to a 21-2 win over Study Hall in a shortened mercy rule match-up to take the best-of-three first-round series 2-0.
In the other scheduled A Division playoff game, Coach’s Corner completed its 2-0 first round sweep with a convincing 13-5 triumph over Ink’d.
In B Division regular season contests, O’Connor & Kruman/Outdoor Solutions downed Stone Lounge 16-10, Red Dragon recorded a 22-6 victory over The Tavern in six innings and Red Jug Pub defeated Gator’s Tavern 14-3.
A DIVISION PLAYOFFS
Central City/JMS 21, Study Hall 2, 5 innings: Central City/JMS broke open a close 4-2 game by scoring 15 runs in the top of the fourth inning. Shawn Lansing went 3-for-4 with and triple and home run for the winners. Fred Casterline also went 3-for-4 with two doubles, while Matt Rutkowski jumped in by going 2-for-3 with a triple, home run and four RBIs.
Jerry Rushak was 2-for-2 for Study Hall.
Coach’s Corner 13, Ink’d 5: Coach’s Corner broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the bottom of the third inning and three more runs in the fourth. A four-run sixth inning sealed the win.
Eric Hubbard led the Coach’s offense as he went 3-for-4 with a triple, home run and four RBIs. Chuck Pitts (2-for-3) and Tim Wright (2-for-4) each drove in two runs for the winners. Randy Phillips was 2-for-3 for Ink’d with a home run.
B DIVISION
O’Connor/Outdoor Solutions 16, Stone Lounge 10: Stone Lounge took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but O’Connor & Kruman/Outdoor Solutions scored 14 of the next 17 runs to close out the regular season in style.
Chad Parker lead the winning attack as he went 4-for-4 with a triple. Chris Maxfield added a 3-for-4 effort while Nick Baker belted a home run. Nick Hoffmann and Dan Kile (triple) each went 3-for-4 for Stone Lounge. Matt Clark helped out with his 2-for-3 bat.
Red Dragon 22, The Tavern 6, 6 innings: Red Dragon started slowly, but a 10-run spurt in the bottom of the third inning turned a 4-1 deficit into an 11-4 advantage that they never surrendered in this shortened six inning game.
Jim Beattie led Red Dragon by going 4-for-4 with a double, four runs scored and two RBIs. Jeremy Milligan added a 4-for-5 night with two triples and three runs scored. Dick Arnold (double), Jason Schumacher (double), Dave Lemon (double, triple) and Dan Edwards each provided 3-for-4 efforts with Clayton Skittles going 3-for-5.
Chris Beattie (2-for-5) ended the game with a three-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to go with his two-run homer in the third. Nick Peters paced The Tavern as he went 3-for-3 with a fifth-inning home run. Jason Newcomb added a 2-for-3 performance and N. Mishalive was 2-for-2.
Red Jug Pub 14, Gator’s Tavern 3: Red Jug Pub posted an easy win after holding Gator’s scoreless over the final four innings to close out the regular season. Nate Leonard led the Pubsters as he went 4-for-4. Adam Reeners provided a 3-for-4 outing with a home run.
Mitch Bush was 2-for-2 with a triple for Gator’s.
