The Tavern grabs playoff win in 7th

The Tavern opened the 2011 Cortland Men’s Slowpitch League C Division softball playoffs with a dramatic come-from-behind victory on Friday.
Winning pitcher Kenn Pease completed a 3-for-3 night at the plate as The Tavern scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to post the 9-8 triumph over Stone Lounge to grab a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three first round series.
Pete Natale drove in the tying run while Steve Smith drove home the winning run, which happened to be Pease. Natale (triple) and Smith each went 3-for-4 in the contest.
Stone Lounge scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to grab a 8-5 lead behind the 3-for-4 bat of Matt Bush, who hit a home run during the game. Derek Fiene and Joe Marks also homered for Stone Lounge.
In the B Division playoffs, Brix used a 12-run second inning to rout Woody’s/Mark’s Pizzeria 29-17 in the first game of their best-of-three series.
Eric Rohwedder went 5-for-6 with a double and three runs scored. Leon Burk added a 4-for-5 bat with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs while Jim Sullivan was 3-for-3 with 3 walks, four runs scored and six RBIs. J. Shufelt chipped in with a 4-for-4 effort.
