First place CFCU rolls

BINGHAMTON — Homer American Legion Post 465 suffered a heartbreaking 12-inning loss at the District 6 Regional baseball tournament Saturday in Binghamton.
Marcus Warner struck out 19 Sidney Post 183 batters in 10 innings of work, but got a no decision during Post 465’s 2-1 setback in the double-elimination format at Conlon Field. Warner allowed a total of three hits and just one run.
In other Saturday games, Owego topped Hancock 5-2 and Vestal out-slugged Binghamton Post 1645 by a 9-8 margin.
In Sunday action, Oneonta defeated Sidney 13-2, Vestal pounded Owego 19-6 and Binghamton Post 465 beat Hancock 11-4.
After Homer took a 1-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning, Sidney tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth. A lead-off walk, a stolen base and an error allowed the tying run to score.
Jon Warner came on to pitch for Post 465 and was hurt by a 12th-inning error that allowed the wining run to reach base. After a walk and sacrifice out runners at second and third with one out. Homer got the second out on a short fly to left field. Sidney won on a walk-off single by Lucas Butcher to remain in the winners’ bracket.
Dan Sheldon was shaky for Sidney as he allowed five hits and seven walks, but just the one run. He got the no decision as Andy Kozak came on in the 10th inning. Kozak worked two and two-thirds scoreless innings for the victory.
Homer received a forfeit victory today against Owego, who does not have enough players, and will return to losers’ bracket action Tuesday at 9 a.m. against the winner of Sidney-Binghamton Post 1645.
The winner of Tuesday’s 9 a.m. game will face the loser of today’s Oneonta-Vestal game at noon Tuesday.
