Palm Gardens/Fine Designs left extra happy
In the tightest Cortland Women’s Slowpitch League contest on Wednesday night, Palm Gardens/Fine Designs used two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to post a thrilling 11-10 softball win over One Cent Saloon in the D Division.
In another D Division contest, Night Owls topped Tioga Hardwoods/Cutia’s 15-9.
In C Division play, Franklin Rock/Central City downed Paddy’s Pub 6-2 and Hairy Tony’s routed Gator’s/Cortland Self Storage 16-4.
In E Division action, Dark Horse dumped Ivan’s/Dave’s Auto 21-9, Dark Horse also beat The Tavern/Home-Cort Advantage 20-4 and Easy Street/Stupid Choppers edged Ho-Beau’s 8-6.
Palm Gardens/Fine Designs 11, One Cent 10: Palm Gardens/Fine Designs played catch-up all night long until the extra-inning walk-off in the bottom of the eighth inning. One Cent jumped out to a 5-1 lead through three innings until Palm Gardens plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth to even the score at 5-5. Single runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings put One Cent in front 7-5 until Palm Gardens scored twice in the bottom of the sixth for a 7-7 deadlock. Each teams scored twice in the seventh inning before One Cent went ahead 10-9 in the top of the eighth inning to set up the final Palm Gardens rally.
Shanna Brown went 5-for-5 to pace the Palm Gardens/Fine Designs. Courtney Cook (double) and Tara Wilhoit each added 3-for-5 efforts.
Jody Maroney went 4-for-4 to lead One Cent. Rachel Moran was a prefect 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs while Kelly Pittsley and Holly Rickert each chipped in with 3-for-4 bats.
Night Owls 15, Tioga Hardwoods/Cutia’s 9: Night Owls broke open its 5-4 lead with seven runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Alexis Young led the winning attack going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Nicole Meeker and Arlone Chrysler (three RBIs) added 2-for-3 efforts with two runs scored. Teresa Larkins went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Staci Billings (triple, four RBIs), Sarah Cable, Michele Stevens, Jen Lung and Lindsey Beckwith each went 2-for-4 for Tioga Hardwoods/Cutia’s.
Franklin Rock/Central City 6, Paddy’s Pub 2: Franklin/Central spotted Paddy’s Pub two runs in the top of the first before scoring its six runs. Three runs in the bottom of the third put the home team in front 4-2.
Katrina Fox led the offensive attack going 3-for-3 with a double. Lynn Baker was 2-for-3 for Paddy’s Pub.
Hairy Tony’s 16, Gator’s/Cortland Storage 4: Hairy Tony’s scored eight runs in the top of the second innings for an 8-2 lead and coasted from there.
Brandy Bessette-Symonds paced the winning offense with a 3-for-4 bat. Linda Rabusin, Lisa Parsons and Anna Dovi (triple) each went 3-for-5. Mary Griffin (double), Maggie Brown and Becky VanWagenen swung 2-for-4 bats for Gator’s/Cortland Storage.
Dark Horse 21, Ivan’s/Dave’s Auto 9: Lisa Hull went 4-for-4 as Dark Horse took charge of this game with six runs in the top of the second inning and six more runs in the top of third inning. Jamie Reynolds added a 3-for-5 effort.
Romney Badman and Haley Fredenburg each provided 2-for-3 outings for Ivan’s/Dave’s Auto.
Dark Horse 20, The Tavern/Home-Cort Advantage 4: Leading 6-0 after two innings, Dark Horse turned this into a five-inning mercy rule contest thanks to an 11-run fourth inning.
Karen Standish and Danielle Chase (double) led the winning attack going 4-for-5.
Bethany Palmer led The Tavern/Home-Cort Advantage offense with a 3-for-3 effort.
Easy Street/Stupid Choppers 8, Ho-Beau’s 6: Easy Street/Stupid Choppers won this game by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh inning after closing to within one run with three runs in the sixth inning. Jody Ward hit a double to lead the comeback effort.
