Trojans’ Brevetti All-State
Homer Central senior shortstop and pitcher Anthony Brevetti received one final honor this week, the Trojan named a New York State Class A fifth-team all-star in baseball.
Brevetti was an All-Central New York first-team pick this spring and an OHSL Freedom Division first-team star after hitting .481 (39x81) with five doubles, nine home runs, 30 runs scored and 32 RBIs. On the mound, he went 4-3 with a 2.90 ERA and 38 strikeouts.
He leaves the Trojan program with school best single-season records for batting average (.510 in 2007), base hits (39, 2008) runs batted in (32, 2008) and home runs (9, 2008). Brevetti is the first Homer player ever to have a .400 career batting average at .431 (84x195), and he is in the top five on the career hits (84), RBIs (60), home runs (11) and runs scored (58) lists.
“It goes to show what determination and hard work can get you,” said Homer coach Rob Nasiatka. “He really deserves the honor. Anthony has great natural ability. I wish him all the best in college and in the rest of his future plans.”
Brevetti will attend Mohawk Valley Community College in the fall.
Bishop Ludden senior pitcher-outfielder Ryan Poplawski was the only other Section 3 or Section 4 fifth-team selection.
Also named to the first team n Class A were senior pitcher-infielder Brendan Hourihan (Lakeland- Section 1), senior shortstop Alex Ferenti (Whitesboro-3), sophomore pitcher-first baseman Brian Ruby (Maine Endwell-4), senior outfielder Charley Thurber (Elmira Free Academy-4), senior pitcher-first baseman Kyle Menard (Pittsford Sutherland-5), senior catcher Joe Polichetti (Dunkirk-6), senior centerfielder-pitcher Patrick Chaputian (North Shore-8), senior pitcher Sean Nolin (Seaford-8), senior pitcher-shortstop Chris Burke (Islip-11) and junior pitcher Kyle Hansen (St. Dominics-CHS)
