Dryden TTC’s Alex Freyburger is late with a tag as Homer Red’s Ethan Forester slides safely into second base in the top of the fourth inning during Thursday’s Babe Ruth title game at Beaudry Park in Cortland. Unbeaten Dryden TTC won, 8-4.

Capping off a remarkable unbeaten baseball season, the Dryden Tompkins Trust & Insurance Companies squad captured the Cortland Babe Ruth League playoff championship Thursday night.
Dryden TTC turned back Homer Red in a showdown of regular season division champions at Beaudry Park in Cortland, finishing a perfect 16-0 in the process — including three wins in post-season play.
Starting pitcher Mike Hattery and Pat Perkins combined to limit the Homer Red batting order to just three hits — including an Andy Parker triple — in this title game.
Dryden TTC, first place finishers in the South Division, never trailed and finished with 11 hits. Homer Red, the North Division regular season champions, concluded a stellar 13-3 campaign.
Two runs in the bottom of the second inning started the Dryden TTC scoring, a Hattery double and a run-scoring single by Matt Phillip the key blows. The lead grew to 3-0 in the third when Alex Freyburger doubled and scored on a Jamie Pastorello base hit.
Homer got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth frame, getting a run when starting pitcher Ethan Forster and Parker had singles. But four runs in the bottom of the fifth put Dryden TTC back in control, four base hits and a couple of walks helping to build a 7-1 lead.
Though Homer Red picked away at that deficit they could not overtake this unbeaten Dryden TTC crew coached by Don Freyburger and Rick Phillips along with assistant Kevin Cowen.
Alex Freyburger finished 2-for-3 and scored three times for the champions, while Phillips was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate. Other members of the winning Dryden TTC squad were Andrew Barber, Alex Barber, Isaac Vanderweert, David Scutt, Tyler Cowen, Kyle Jackson, Garret Ordway and Tim Gray.
After receiving a first round bye, Dryden TTC topped McGraw 18-7 in the quarterfinals and Homer Blue 8-5 in the semifinals before this title game success.
Parker’s two hits topped Homer Red, Forster with the only other base hit. Homer Red blanked Tully 6-0 in the quarterfinals and got past Fabius 8-3 in the semifinals to earn this shot in the finals.
