Defending champions booted out by Mr. B’s

There will be a new champion in the Cortland Fastpitch League this softball season.
That was established Monday night as Mr. B’s scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat defending champion Dark Horse 10-9.
On the heels of a 6-3 win by Mr. B’s in the continuation of a suspended game from last week to get things started at Meldrim Field, Mr. B’s won the best-of-5 series three games to one.
In the other semifinal series, Stone Lounge and Central City Bar & Grill were slated for a semifinal skirmish — no details reported.
Mr. B’s 10, Dark Horse 9: Matt Rutkowski singled home Mike Holl with the winning run after Holl had doubled to tie the game. Mr. B’s, which finished third during the regular season, led 8-2 after four innings before runner-up Dark Horse scored three runs in the top of the fifth and added four more in the sixth to take a 9-8 lead.
Mark Kinner and Rutkowski both went 4-for-4 to lead the winners offensively, Kinner driving in five runs while Rutkowski crossed the plate three times. Winning pitcher Holl helped himself by going 3-for-4 with an RBI while Eric Miller went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Jake Waslewski went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Dark Horse, while losing hurler Jeff Carr finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored. T.J. Griffin went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
No further information was provided on the completion of the suspended contest.
