Babe Ruth baseball: Bankers steal one
in seventh

Noah Bishop stole home with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday evening to give Cortland Alliance Bank a 10-9 win over Fabius in the Cortland County Babe Ruth League baseball playoffs.
Tully was a 13-9 winner over visiting DeRuyter in another North Division contest, while in the South Division host McGraw was a 9-4 winner over Cortland Elks in other opening round playoff contests. There was no word on the outcome of Groton’s visit to Marathon.
Cortland Alliance Bank 10, Fabius 9: Bishop led off the seventh for North Division regular-season runner-up Alliance Bank with his third walk of the game, stole second and third and, two outs later, swiped home with two strikes on the batter for his third run and sixth stolen base of the game.
Fabius, the third-place finisher in the North Division during the regular season, struck early in the contest with four first-inning runs, keyed by a two-run double by Zack Thomas. The hosts answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame, Ryan Harris singling home two runs while Greg Brown, Levi Bush and Jordan Prignon each had a one-run single.
Fabius went back up 7-5 with three runs in the third, Jake Kreinheder singling home two of them, and went up 8-5 with another run in the fourth. Alliance retook the lead with a four-run bottom of the fourth, Justin Travis’s two-run single the big blow. The visitors then tied the game at 9-9 with a run in the sixth.
Thomas went 3-for-3 with the double to spearhead the Alliance offense, while Brown went 2-for-5. Travis had eight strikeouts in four innings of relief work and picked up the mound victory.
Tully 13, DeRuyter 9: Dave Brown hit two home runs and drove in five runs as the North Division’s regular-season champion triumphed over its fourth-place foe. DeRuyter scored three times in the first, Tully answering with five runs in the bottom of the frame. After the visitors tied it with two runs in the second, Tully took control for good with a four-run outburst in the bottom of that frame. The winners scored twice each in the fifth and sixth before a single DeRuyter run in the seventh closed out the scoring.
Tully will host Cortland Alliance Thursday night in the North Division final.
McGraw 9, Cortland Elks 4: The South Division runners-up trailed the third-place Elks 2-0 before taking the lead for good with five runs in the bottom of the third and two more in the fourth. Winning pitcher Justin Morgan went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and five RBIs, while Devin McGuiness was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Parker Williamson went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run and took the mound loss.
McGraw will face the winner of the contest between South Division regular-season winner Marathon Sautter Construction and fourth-place Groton for the divisional championship, the date and site to be determined. If Sautter wins the game will be played in Marathon; if Groton wins, that team will travel to McGraw.
