Ink’d takes first B Division title step

It’s down to the championship round for all three divisions in Cortland Men’s Slowpitch Softball League for 2011 after Thursday night’s action.
In the C Division, King Sub punched its ticket to face Study Hall for the title with a 19-4 victory over The Tavern to complete a two-game sweep in their best-of-three series.
In the A Division, both semifinal best-of-three series began and ended with doubleheader sweeps. Grand Rental/Gable Inn swept Bow-Jen/Post 489 by scores of 15-7 and 11-5 while GSG Vincent/St. Charles dropped Central City 12-5 and 19-0. The two teams that tied for the regular season crown will now face-off for the playoff championship.
In the B Division, Ink’d took game one in the best-of-3 championship series with a 6-5 win over regular season champion Red Jug Pub.
B DIVISION
Ink’d 6, Red Jug Pub 5: In a tightly contested first game, Ink’d plated a pair of runs in the top of the third and fourth innings to build a 5-3 lead, but it was that extra run scored in the sixth that proved to be the game-winner as the regular season runner-up took the early series advantage.
Jeremy Sutton led the Ink’d offense as he went 3-for-3. Josh Sutton, Scott Knight and Corey Romans added 2-for-3 bats with one double each. Robert Sutton was also 2-for-3.
Mike Myers went 3-for-3 to lead the Red Jug Pub attack. Kyle Rogers, Barry Shaver and Travis Marshall chipped in with 2-for-3 efforts. Rogers and Shaver each hit one double, as did Nate Leonard.
C DIVISION
King Sub 19, The Tavern 4: Joe Magee hit home runs in the first and second inning as King Sub grabbed a 12-0 lead in this five inning rout. Magee hit a two-run homer in the five-run first inning and added a three-run shot in the seven-run second. The Tavern scored all of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game.
Bob Durbin (4 RBIs) and Bob Gable each swung 4-for-4 bats for King Sub. Dan Warner chipped in with a 3-for-3 effort while Magee and Cliff Quick (double) each drove in five runners.
Jason Newcomb was 2-for-3 for The Tavern. Pet Natale added a home run and three RBIs.
A DIVISION
Grand Rental/Gable Inn 15, Bow-Jen/Post 489 7: Grand Rental/Gable broke open a close first game. Leading 7-5, GR/GI plated five runs in the bottom of the fifth to get some breathing room.
Seth Montgomery led the way by going 4-for-4. Chad Worsell added a 3-for-4 bat with one double. Jamie Buck (triple) was 2-for-3 while Casey Crandall (HR) was 2-for-4.
Waylon DeGraw led Bow-Jen/Post 489 as he swung a 3-for-4 bat.
Grand Rental/Gable Inn 11, Bow-Jen/Post 489 5: Grand Rental/Gable Inn built a 5-0 lead over the first two innings before plating six runs over the final three innings to complete the sweep.
Casey Crandall led the winning cause as he went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a home run. Justin DeGraw helped out by going 3-for-3 with a triple while Brian Taylor was 3-for-4.
Waylon DeGraw and Eugene Forehand each went 2-for-3 for Bow-Jen/Post 489 in their team’s final game of the season.
GSG Vincent/St. Charles 12, Central City 5: Central City built a 4-0 lead early with the help of Dennis Hopkins, who went 4-for-4 in the game.
GSG/St Charles came battling back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning before a six-run fifth inning helped the defending playoff champs take an 8-4 advantage.
Bill Kerry was 4-for-4 for the winners. Nick Baker (HR) and Eric Vincent each chipped in with 3-for-4 efforts.
GSG Vincent/St. Charles 19, Central City 0: GSG Vincent/St. Charles pitcher Frank Tibke and his defensive mates held Central City to just four hits in completing the sweep.
Offensively, Mike Zaccardo was 4-for-4 with three doubles and a home run. Troy Boice (2 doubles), Brian Keefer and Nick Baker (double) added 3-for-4 bats while Tibke, Joe Volpicelli and Eric Vincent swung 2-for-3 bats.
