GSG/St. Charles moves on to final

In the only Cortland Men’s Slowpitch League semifinal playoff series to go the distance, GSG Vincent/St. Charles Hotel escaped Friday night to advance to the A Division softball finals.
Jim Hogan’s bases-loaded single in the top of the seventh inning drove home what proved to be the winning run as third-seed GSG Vincent/St. Charles Hotel nipped second-seed Central City Bar & Grill 7-6 to settle their best-of-three skirmish at Dexter Park.
The winners will next play in Tuesday’s championship series against top-seed and defending champion Grand Rental Station in another best-of-three match-up. That opening game is a 6 p.m. start back at Dexter.
Eric McLaughlin homered and went 3-for-4 to pace an 18-hit GSG Vincent/St. Charles offense, winning pitcher Frank Tibke and Brian Keefer also going 3-for-4.
Central City scored once in the bottom of the seventh before seeing its season end, as Fred Casterline, Jeff Carr and Pat Casselberry all finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Carr legged out a triple and Casterline doubled.
The league’s other championship match-ups have top-seed Bow Jen Archery/Legion Post 489 facing third-seed Gator’s Tavern in the B Division while top-seed Outdoor Solutions meets second-seed King Sub for the C Division crown.
