Cutia’s nips rival for crown

Cutia’s Pizza nipped rival Gator’s Tavern 6-5 in the softball championship game of the Jim Partigianoni Memorial Coed Slowpitch League playoffs on Saturday.
Anna Whitmore capped a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning by driving home the decisive run as Cutia’s Pizza swept through the playoffs and regular season with a perfect 18-0 record.
Gator’s Tavern ended up 14-5, with all five losses coming against its house mate.
Cutia’s Pizza started its run to the title with a 17-4 win over MAC Tools in the opening round of this double elimination tournament and then nipped Cutia’s Pizza 3-1 in a semifinal tussle before taking the rematch in the championship round contest with that late comeback.
Cutia’s Pizza 17, MAC Tools 4: Tom Cullip homered twice including a grand slam and drove in six runs overall while going 3-for-3 in this five-inning victory. Jeremy Devereese (3x4) and Tffany Hubbard also homered in the romp. Jamie Babcock and Christina Abbott went 2-for-3 for MAC Tools.
Cutia’s Pizza 3, Gator’s Tavern 1: Winning pitcher Jim Hogan held Gator’s to just six hits and a lone fourth inning run. Bob Craig and Tiffany Hubbard were both 2-for-2 for Cutia’s, who collected 11 base hits.
Cutia’s Pizza 6, Gator’s Tavern 5: Andrew Pierce was 2-for-2 with a triple to lead Cutia’s in the title game. Jim Beattie was 2-for-3 with a three-bagger for Gator’s.
Mullen’s Wins Dryden Title
DRYDEN —After a day of round robin play, Mullen’s Body Shop came up with a 10-8 softball victory over Sautter Construction in the title game of the Dryden Saturday Coed Slowpitch League.
Seven runs in the top of the sixth inning erased a three-run deficit and carried Mullen’s to the title, Shawn Murphy with a two-run double and Jen Dube picking up a pair of RBIs in that rally. Murphy had two doubles and four RBIs in the win, while Brett Capps and Scott Phillips tripled.
Mullen’s and Sautter had split four previous meetings this season, with each of those games decided by a single run. Those were the lone losses suffered by Mullen’s throughout the summer.
Sautter Construction went unbeaten in the round robin portion of the playoffs, beating Pall Trinity 12-11, Mullen’s 4-3 and the Extinguishers. Mullen’s rolled past the Extinguishers 18-3 and beat PallTrinity 10-4 to earn the second seed.
In the semifinals, Mullen’s beat Pall Trinity and Sautter’s knocked off the Extinguishers.
