Red Jug secures firm grasp of 1st

In a late-season showdown between the top two D Division softball squads, first place Red Jug Pub had the upper hand in a 12-1 win over Stone Lounge over six innings Wednesday in the Cortland Women’s Slowpitch League.
Bob’s Riverside nipped Palm Gardens 4-2 in another D Division contest.
C Division leader Paddy’s Pub/281 Bowl tasted defeat for the first time this season, 6-1 at the hands of Franklin Rock/Central City Bar & Grill. Also in that division, Hairy Tony’s was an 8-2 winner over’s Pizza and Gator’s Tavern walloped Ivan’s 24-4.
E Division leader St. Charles/Tioga Hardwoods blanked last-place Dave’s Automotive 16-0 in five frames, while Ho-Beau’s/Doug’s Fish Fry was a 13-1 winner over Dark Horse in another five-inning game and The Tavern rolled past Easy Street/Stupid Choppers 20-8.
Red Jug Pub 12, Stone Lounge 1: Grabbing 10-zip control through the opening three innings, Red Jug Pub cruised to victory. Molly Reagan doubled and tripled to go along with steady offensive outings from teammates Kelly Bushey (2x2), Amanda Holley (2x3) and Emily Quinlan (2x3) for the winners. Carrie Makela and Ashley Brown swung 2-for-3 Stone Lounge bats.
Bob’s Riverside 4, Palm Gardens 2: The winners scored two runs each in the second and third innings to overcome the pair that Palm Garden’s scored in the first. Nicole Meeker and Danielle Beebe both went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run for Bob’s, while Wendy Lockwood went 2-for-3 with a run. Darci Gumaer went 3-for-3 with a run and Sue Recor was 2-for-3 for Palm Gardens.
Homer Logging 14, Deli Downtown 3: Sherri DeWitt doubled for Homer Logging and Marcy Griffin tripled for Deli Downtown, no further information available.
Franklin Rock/Central City 6, Paddy’s Pub/281 Bowl 1: Heather Williams and Lyn Baker both went 3-for-4 for the winners, who got 2-for-3 nights from Jonna Ball and Kim Frost. Janet Wiese went 2-for-3 in the losing effort.
Hairy Tony’s 8,’s Pizza 3: A seven-run fourth inning was the decisive factor for Hairy’s Tony’s, which was led by Joelle Horton, who went 2-for-2 with a double. Anna Whitmore and Becky Merritt both went 2-for-3.
Gator’s Tavern 24, Ivan’s 4: Becky Van Wagenen went 4-for-4 with a double and five RBIs for Gator’s, while Andrea Turcsik (four RBIs), Julie Conklin (two RBIs) and Jackie Newton (two RBIs) all went 3-for-4. Corinne Russell went 2-for-3 for Ivan’s.
St. Charles/Tioga Hardwoods 16, Dave’s Automotive 0: While Michelle Kinney was pitching a shutout, Donna Cruz led the offense with a triple and three RBIs.
Ho-Beau’s/Hairy Tony’s 13, Dark Horse 1: Katie Reif (triple), Val Wilson and Kristy May all went 3-for-4 for the winners, while Jamie Reynolds was 2-for-2 and Kelli Griswold scored the only run for Ivan’s.
The Tavern 20, Easy Street/Stupid Choppers 8: Pam Wenck was perfect in five at-bats for The Tavern, while Michaela Rotunda tripled in the losing effort.
Playoffs in all divisions will start Saturdan and crown three champions on Sunday.
