Marauders second

ENDICOTT — The CNY Marauders 14-16-year-old youth baseball squad was runner-up in the ETL Classic All-Star Tournament in Endicott this past weekend.
The local squad, coached by Mike DiMattei, Ed Southworth and Tim Smith, lost 6-5 to the Endicott A Team Sunday in the championship game. Team members were Zach Blanden, Matt Carr, Zephan Kash, Ricky Newman, Andy Parker, Pat Phillips, Zach Randolph, Cody Smith, Brandon Watkins, Tony Whitt, Chase Wiley and Trevor Williamson.
In addition, a pair of Marauder teams competed in the Sixth Annual Mansfield Showdown in Mansfield, Pa. July 27-29. The 14-Under squad finished 1-2-1, while the 16-Under squad was 1-3.

 

Celtic run set

The Celtic Run, the third race in the Fidelis 6-Pack Race Series, will take place at 9 a.m. Aug. 25.
The race includes both a 5K and a one-mile fun run, and is a prediction race, with participants predicting their 5K time upon registration. A fee will be involved in registration, with the first 75 registrants receiving a race T-shirt. Those interested can call the Cortland County YMCA at 756-2893 with questions or to register. Registration forms are also available online at www.cortlandymca.org. or www.cortlandsports.org.
The YMCA and the Cortland Regional Sports Council host the series, in collaboration with the Kim Ryan Leonard Scholarship Fund, the Cortland Paid Fire Fighters and the Salvation Army.
The final three races in the series are the Pumpkin Run on Oct. 6, the Leaf Peeper on Oct. 21 and the Turkey Trot on Nov. 22 (Thanksgiving Day). Points will be awarded for participation and finish order in each series race, with prizes and awards going to the top point-getters.
  

 

 

Hoops signups ongoing

Registration is underway for the Cortland YMCA Men’s Basketball League that is scheduled to run from Oct. 1 until Dec. 20.
Open Division teams play on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, with a 16-game regular season followed by playoffs. The Masters Division is on Monday, with a 10-game slate followed by playoffs.
Teams must submit their registration form and payment of league fees no later than Tuesday, Sept. 25. Final schedules will be available on Friday, Sept. 28.
