Trio of squads survive playoff showdowns
Three Cortland Men’s Slow Pitch Softball League first-round playoff series came to an end Friday night in decisive third games.
In third-game results in the B Division, Friends B shaded Gator’s Tavern 6-5 while Hooley’s White was a 6-2 winner over Crown Liquor.
In a Class C showdown, Friend’s C advanced in the playoffs with a 16-8 winner over K&H Motorsports.
Two games were also slated to be played in the A Division, no results reported.
Friends B 6, Gator’s Tavern 5: Bob Craig went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles to pace the Friends B offense, while Tim Robison also went 3-for-3 and Billy Decker went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double. No stats were reported for Gator’s.
Hooley’s White 6, Crown Liquor 2: Chad Poli and S.D. Burns both went 2-for-3 for Hooley’s White, while winning pitcher Scott Ochs went 2-for-2 and Daron Foster doubled home two runs and stole home. Rob Green went 3-for-3 for Crown Liquor.
Friends C 16, K&H Motorsports 8: Ryan Eddy (triple, three RBIs) and Jeremy Baker (triple, double) both went 4-for-4 for Friends C, and scored four runs each. Kyle Rogers went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for K&H, while Kyle Maxson went 3-for-3 with a run scored.
CCRP 18, Marietta 8: In a late report from Thursday night, the winners scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to overcome an 8-7 deficit and take control of the game. Nick Hoffmann (homer, triple, double), D.J. Marks (triple, double) and winning pitcher Vic Quaile (triple) all went 4-for-5 to lead the way, while Billy Grant homered twice and Rob Benson also homered. J. Sutton went 3-for-3 and Bob McAnulty 3-for-4 with a triple for Marietta.
